The World Press Photo of the Year 2004 has been awarded to Reuters photographer Arko Datta for his iconic picture of human suffering caused by the Asian Tsunami.
Reuters dominated the spot news category with third place for the work of Juan Medina  for his image of Canary Islands, and honourable mention for Daniel Aguilar for his sinister image of a suspect Artiside assasin being held in a car in Port-au-Prince in Haiti .
Reuters photographer Paul Vreeker won the second prize in the people in the news singles for his image of Iranian immigrants protest against proposed Dutch asylum laws. In the nature singles category, Reuters photographer Pierre Holtz was awarded second prize for his picture of swarm of locusts in Dakar.
Yannis Behrakis, Reuters Greece Chief Photographer has won the first prize in the annual Greek Fuji Photo competition.
Netherlands Chief Photographer Jerry Lampen has won second prize at the Dutch  Fuji  Competition.
