| Nineteen years and two days old, not much to show for life, What started as an adventure, made a widow of my wife. At first I was honoured to serve my King, as we all marched off to war, I knew not what this life would bring, with horrors not seen before. |

| I worked on roads before I joined, and then I volunteered. My mates and I marched down the street, the whole town, they all cheered. Then off to Foreign fields we went, When training all was done, We thought this war would be short making a safer world for everyone. |
