Planned Upgrades

You may have been directed to this page because you have elected to upgrade your Great Plains Financial software soon – ish. Before an upgrade can be effected it is important specific information is understood and certain criteria are meet. These are areas like database maintenance, free disk space, operating system configuration, etc. To give your upgrade crew the necessary information there are a number of forms here which outline various steps to be completed and which give a real indication of the environment you currently have.

Altogether there are four forms included covering database types and environment. The database checklists cover both ISAM which includes Btrieve (Pervasive SQL 2000) and Ctree, and Microsoft SQL. The environment sheet gives information on both Novell NetWare and Microsoft NT networks. For your upgrade you will need to pick the sheets that apply. E.g. if using Novell for file and print services and Windows NT for the MS-SQL database platform then three forms will be needed, i.e. NetWare and Microsoft environment information sheets and the MS-SQL database checklist.

The “Environment Information Sheet” is below for you to fill out. This contains information about your network environment and current Great Plains software and is required for the initial discussions of when and how the upgrade will be effected. The “Environment Information Sheet” should be completed and sent to the upgrade team well before a date for the upgrade is set.

The “Upgrade Checklist” below has steps you will need to do or have arranged to be done. All steps should be completed and sent to your upgrade crew a few days before the upgrade start date.

Upgrade Experiences

We have had many upgrades that have gone very well as you would expect, but there have been a few that have taxed our upgrade crew. Here is one that took some time to establish the cause and work around.
