Dynamics Bi-Monthly Technical Audit

The intention of a regular site visit is to check over a Dynamics installation and identify possible problem areas before they become problems.

Yes / No CHECKLIST
  1. Location of the Dynamics application on each workstation. This should be the same on every workstation in the enterprise unless there is an agreement for good reasons for deviation from this scenario
  2. The dynamics.set file should be identical in each workstation across the enterprise unless there is an agreement for good reasons for deviation from this scenario. Those using modifier and report writer may have an extra customised set file
  3. The pathnames to the modified dictionaries in the dynamics.set allow for these dictionaries to reside in a non shared location with the paths the same for each PC
  4. Is there a master location for the modified dictionaries that is on the network and backed up regularly and does it contain the latest modified dictionaries
  5. Facility to take copies of the modified dictionaries from the master location and copy these into the non shared location automatically to keep everyone on the same version
  6. Is there a recognised procedure individuals use when a dictionary is modified to update that dictionary in the master location.
  7. Confirm the “Workstation Stuff” folder contains the current workstation install. Everything to be installed into the dynamics folder like 3 rd party products should be reflected here for easy duplication of new workstations. It may also contain sub folders for Integration Manager and FRx.
  8. Confirm each workstation is using ODBC version 3.7x or later
  9. Adequate free space on the SQL server's drive.
  10. Adequate free space on the file server's drive
  11. Are there old SQL back ups and SQL backup devices no longer required that could be deleted.
  12. Are there companies that are no longer needed which can be removed.
  13. If truncate log on checkpoint is on, are the database logs empty
  14. Is the backup getting the data from the database
  15. Is the maintenance done on the SQL database on a regular basis running automatically.
  16. Is someone checking the SQL error log daily to confirm backup and the regular maintenance is not finding errors
  17. Has the DBA set alerts on the database, if so are they being monitored by the DBA
  18. Is the daily file backup getting the following shared data off the network. Frx application and associated customised financial reports, Modified dictionaries, workstation stuff files.
