Workstation "TommyBoy" This workstation was origionally Nicole's PC when the Palmerston North crew transferred and took up residence. The machine has a network name of NZGPSLAB01 but is usually referred to as TommyBoy as this was the name Nicole affectingly had it named back in the Palmerston North days. Tommyboy is now exclusively used in the Great Plains Lab environment since Nicole left the Wellington office. Tommyboy is running NT5 workstation (Windows 2000 professional), has a P-III cpu, 128mb ram, 6gb Eide drive, and is connected to the Greatplains Lab 10/100 hub using a 100mb connection. Tommyboy has PcAnywhere 9.2 installed as well as various flavours of Dynamics and eEnterprise. TommyBoy connects to the internal network using Novell Client for windows. TommyBoy does not have a database engine installed at all. Server "Betty" This machine started life as a Compaq Deskpro, it has the network name of nzwlg22 but has the nickname of Betty (hey, we are told every office has a Betty). Betty is running NT server 4.0 SP6a, has a P-III 450 mhz cpu, 256mb of ram, Adaptec 2930U2 SCSI controller with a Seagate ST39175LW 9gb SCSI drive in 2 partitions. Also the 2gb Jaz drive is plugged into the SCSI controller which allows much better data transfer rates than the parallel Jaz Traveller it comes with. Betty does perform reasonably but her performance does suffer at times due to constraints in the disk i/o subsystem. Betty connects to the Network using Microsoft client for Netware. Betty has SQL 6.5 and SQL 7.0 configured as well as Btrieve 7.5 (Pervasive SQL 2000). PCAnywhere 7.5 is also installed as a service and should start when the operating system boots up. Betty does not have any version of Great Plains software or FRX installed. Her role is primarily a database engine. Back Revised 5th December 2001 |
