The Slanting Style is the basic floral style in Heika. It expresses the beauty of branches that reach out horizontally.
Willow may be composed in either the Upright or Slanting Style, depending on the posture of the branches.
It is important to make the most of the gentle curves of the branches. The Subject height one and one-half time the height of the vase. In the Heika, the measurements apply only to the part of the material that is visible in the arrangement.
The portion of each branch that is placed inside the vase is not included in the measurements .
For Subject, choose a branch with gentle curve. Position it to emerge from the front left corner of the mouth of the container.Slant it down a bit more than the basic 70 degrees, and swing it to the left 45 degrees from the front.
For the Secondary, also choose a willow branch. The Secondary height is one-half the length of the Subject. It emerges from behind the Subject, is drawn back and slant to the left. It is very important to give the appearance that both the Subject and the Secondary are emerging from a single branch. A tall Filler of willow is arranged slightly inclined forward. Add another Front Filler to the base of the Subject, and insert shorter Filler between Subject and Secondary.
Use tree roses as the Object and its Filler stems. The height of the Object is one-half of the length of the Subject. It is slanted 60 degree down from the vertical and swayed horizontally 45 degree from the center of the composition. Arranged lower than the Oblect, one Filler rose, another rose has its base beside the tall Filler.
