A Bit of Background on Buckhorn

On a typical summer day in Buckhorn, visitors bustle and congregate near the locks, which are located right in the center of the village. Boats line the sides of the canal, awaiting their turn to go through and explore other areas of the Trent-Severn system, and people of all ages can be found wandering up and down the waterway and all along the adjacent streets. Restaurants and Shops are located right next to the locks, and further afield you will find art galleries and many resorts and inns.

Buckhorn truly "comes alive" in the summer months, as local residents invite thousands of visitors to explore the village and the rugged landscape, characterized by exposed granite and evergreens. The sceenery is beautiful all year, even accented with a blanket of snow in the winter, but the warm winds of summer truly do it the best justice.

A drive in the scenic countryside here will boast rich farmland, orchards, florious hills and historic views of saw mills and log cabins. And, for fishing enthusiasts, pickeral, muskie and bass are in abundance.

Today, Buckhorn's Lock 31 is one of the most popular and heavily-used locks along the Trent-Severn system, with aproximately 15,000 boats going through annually. And let us not forget about other activities: water-skiing, windsurfing, paddling and sailing in the warm weather and skating in the winter.

Buckhorn is a wonderful four-seasons destination you won't want to miss!
