| Ed grew up in Iowa Falls, Iowa. He worked for Veterans Administration in Des Moines, but got a promotion that moved him and his family to Iowa City in 1962. He continued his work in Veterans Administration for 35 years. He also managed a credit union for nine years before he retired. Ed and his wife have three children. Their daughter and two grandchildren live in Wellman, Iowa. One son and four grandchildren live in Macomb, Illinois, and their other son lives in Adel, Iowa with four more grandchildren. Ed enjoys hiking, swimming, rollerskating, traveling, and skiing. Recently Ed and his family took a ski trip to Winter Park, Colorado. Ed has been volunteering with RSVP for ten years. He is involved with Partners in Reading, and the new Buddies Mentoring Program at Twain Elementary. He also volunteers as a clerk at the Mississippi Valley Blood Center. He decided to become a RSVP volunteer to keep himself busy and fill his days with meaningful activity. Ed's favorite memories from his volunteer work are when children he helped recognize him in the community years later. Volunteering is a very enjoyable activity for Ed. It is a way for him to give back to the community, and also a way to be a friend to someone in need. |
