PowerValve for the Rs125
The powervalve (exhaust valve) is located at the front of the engine, above the exhaust port in behind the Rad. (it has a long cable coming out of it) It is used to higher the exhaust port height, giving more room for the exhausts to escape, thus giving more power. To achieve best performance, this valve is only used at certain points in the rev range. On the Aprilia rs125 it opens at about 8,000 rpm and continues all the way up the range. The valve itself is oporated by a solinoid which pulls the cable attached to the valve to open it. The solinoid is controlled by the cdi unit (located in the hump) which among other things, monitors the rev`s.
Here are two photo`s of the entrie power valve unit, mine being from the newer type122 engine, the only difference between the 122 and 123 valve is an extra rubber washer and no print on the face of the valve.
I recently had to replace the valve on my rs, as the slot on the valve for the cable had worn away. I bought a second hand valve from a `98 rs125 (after ringing up about a new one which costs 105euro). The valve lasted about 6weeks before it snapped at the stem, so I was forced to buy a new one
Make sure to clean the valve reguarly, it will get dirty so depending on the type of 2stroke oil you use will determine how often, but generally every couple of thousand Km`s or when it stops opening!
The carbon can be hard to get of, so instead of buying dear cleaning agents I (carefully) scrape of the carbon with a knife and use a bit `o elbow grease to get the rest off. Be sure to replace the gasket with a new one when done! Have fun!!
