From Chad Bryant:
I do know that Scott Steiner was stripped for taking a walk with Rick. Their
contract expired at the end of '92, so they signed up for the WWF to start
appearing in early '93, when the WCW contract would be expired. Since Scott
was under contract until 1-1-93, the TV title was effectively vacant
sometime
around then.
The TV title is a relic from the old Mid-Atlantic area. When the NWA ceased
to
promote in specific areas in 1986, they kept the TV title from Mid-Atlantic,
the Georgia National tag title (vacated and renamed the U.S. tag title) the
Western States title, and the Florida title (later merged with the TV title
in
late '88 because Mike Routundo held both). They let the CWA (Memphis) have
the
Southern belt. Some of the memorable Mid-Atlantic TV champs were Wahoo
McDaniel, Rick Steamboat, and a promising youngster by the name of Ric
Flair.
