OSCAR, or the Old Students Celebration At RSK, was
conceived in 1999 as a continuation of the previous
OSA festivals Cultural Fever of 1987, OSCAR 1990
(when it stood for Old Students Carnival), FOSA RSK
1992 and Eclat 1995. OSCAR 99, though based on the
same mould of a stage for showcasing the students
extra-curricular talents, went on to set a trend in
the type of events that were held.
OSCAR has always celebrated the coming together of the
3 streams that form a Schools structure the Old
Students, the current students and the teaching
community that acts as a bridge between the Old and
the new students. Through this celebration, the Old
Students try to give back to the School, and hence the
current students, a bit of what they have learnt after
passing out of School gates.
This year, OSCAR 2004 comes with a difference. With
the need to constantly redefine ourselves, and be a
trend-setter, OSCAR 2004 is split into 4 streams a
Cultural Extravaganza which aims at showcasing the
talents of students, a Career Guidance Course for the
IX and X Std students, an Open House Counselling
Session for the XI and XII Std students, and a Special
programme the Model United Nations Assembly. These
programmes are aimed at showing to students what all
directions their career paths could go. They also
would help students get answers to a lot of questions
that they would have had inside them, but would not
have known answers for, or whom to ask. By the Career
Guidance and Open House Sessions, we bring to the
Student community people from among the Old Student
Community who would be in a position to understand
what these Students are going through, and hence would
be able to provide better answers. We do not claim
that you would not get these answers anywhere but we
only claim that this is one more opportunity for you
to get answers.
The Model United Nations Assembly is aimed at trying
to inculcate within students the need to have a better
world, and to change the ways of our living
neighbourhood before it gets too late. The stage that
the MUNA offers would enable the students to know more
about their International community and to look at
problems plaguing various countries. It also prepares
students to fit into the role of leaders of the
future, and also enables students to manage time,
resources, situations and people better.
Together, this years OSCAR aims at redefining the way
OSCAR has been in the past and to be more
student-community-friendly so that OSCAR and the OSA
prove time and again that we are not here to have just
meaningless fun. We are here for fun with a purpose.
Thanks. And enjoy the next two days as we celebrate
OSCAR!
