The Zoo
Hey.  I'm Piggy, a sweet little calico guinea pig from the Virginia Beach SPCA.  Yes shelters have small animals too!  First they thought I was allergic to wood but it turns out my previous owners hadn't taken very good care of me and I had mites and itchy skin.  They gave me medicine at the SPCA and I'm all better now.  I enjoy eating hay, veggies, fruit, and homework, which is why my mom kept the name Piggy.  Apparently I'm a bit of a pig but that's ok because I'm cute when I eat.
This is the cozy cage where I live.  When mom is home I run around the little pen on the floor but most of the time I hide out in my igloo or beg for snacks.  Do you have a snack?  I could really go for a snack right now.  Dandelion perhaps?
Sometimes people think I'm a hamster, but I'm not.  I'm a guinea pig.  And a big one at that.  As big as a Kleenex box, see!  I also have a funny little stripped butt.  Even the vet said it was cute.
The most annoying thing happened Saturday.  The city shelter where mom volunteers had these 2 squawking creatures called cockatiels.  I'm not sure exactly what one is, but they sure can make a racket.  Mom says she grew up with one called Spot and that these arent near as cute as hers.  I have been assured they arent permanent residents to steal my attention and guess what, they got adopted!  No more birdie noises.  I guess they were a little cute.
