| HOW TO HOST A ROOM IN NAVYFIELD!
This is here to inform our many newcomers on the etiquettes of hosting a room. If you are like me, you have wasted countless minutes in a room with a bad host who had no idea what he was doing. Here are the basics: RULE #1 DO NOT TAB IN UNTIL LAST!!! The host should always be the last person to ready. There is NEVER a good viable reason to tab in before everyone else. The purpose for this is to keep the game starting prematurely or unbalanced. RULE #2 DO NOT TRY TO BALANCE THE GAME UNTIL THE ROOM IS CLOSED!! No matter how many players run to bravo to be on that team, do not try to balance it until the room is full or closed. Once the room is full or closed, then balancing may commence. RULE #3 BALANCE THE GAME!!! Just because each team has 3CL and 10 DD does not mean the game is balanced. What CL are on each team? What DD? For example a team with 2 Brooklyn and a Mogami vs a Dido and 2 Agano is not balanced. A game with more neutral DD on one team vs the other is not balanced. A game with torpers all on one team is not balanced. It is also important to balance ranks of players. A team with many lvl40+ players vs a team with many 1 stripe players is not balanced. As room host, it is your job to make sure YOUR GAME is balanced. What goes around comes around.. balance your teams. RULE #4 DO NOT REOPEN ONCE GAME IS PROPERLY BALANCED! Nothing is more frustrating then waiting for a game to fill, then balance.. then all tab in.. and then.. the host reopens for *just a few more. This is very rude to the players who have already waited for the game to balance. When game is closed and balanced.. start. RULE #5 DO NOT BAN PLAYERS WITHOUT SOME WARNING!! Give each player a chance to tab in. Some players connections may not be as fast as yours and take time to load the game. Give them at least 10 second warning before banning. RULE #6 BEING ROOM HOST DOES NOT INFUSE YOU WITH GOD-LIKE POWERS!! Sadly this is an issue. Each game is to be balanced and fair. Just because you are room host does not give you the right to decide both CA or CV should be on your team... balance them. You do not have the right to stack anyone on your team to give you an advantage. RULE #7 BE COURTEOUS!! Never understimate the powers of kindness and thoughtfulness for others. In a world of anonymity, only typed texts and your in-game decisions define who you are. Show yourself to be a fair and honest player, and that will take you further then your ability to sink any ship faster than others. Well, I hope this post helps some of the newer players. Too many times, the vets are quick to judge the newbies when just a few moments of time, some answered questions, and some simple kindness would solve many problems. See you in game!! |
