Rex Bergamini, Senior Biologist

Rex has performed both research and fieldwork in biology for over 13 years.  His varied project experience includes conducting water and soil quality studies in the Verde River Watershed, as well as conducting environmental monitoring activities in partnership with the Verde Watershed Watch Network.  He has extensive experience in wetland delineations, wetland restoration studies, habitat assessments and biological evaluations. Other specialties include stream bioassessment, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, and microbiological testing.

Prior Experience

Great Western Ecology, Sedona AZ. Senior Environmental Scientist

Responsibilities include project management for wetland restoration studies, habitat assessments and biological evaluations, physicochemical assessments, ecological studies with a focus on stream biosurveys, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, microbiological assays, aquatic and terrestrial species tissue toxicology collection and analysis, chronic and acute bioassays, water quality, and ecological risk assessments.

Great Eastern Ecology, Inc, New York, NY. Senior Environmental Scientist

Conducted wetland restoration studies, habitat assessment and evaluation, ecological studies with a focus on stream bioassessment, benthic macroinvertebrate surveys, biological tissue sample collection, water quality, and ecological risk assessments.Selected for team to collect hydrographic data including longitudinal profiles and channel cross-sections, benthos sampling, silvery minnow habitat assessments, and sediment gauging, in developing a hydraulic watershed model for the US Department of Interior Bureau of Reclamations Middle Rio Grande Project, NM.  Project is currently pending.

Center for Water & Environmental Studies, LLC, Sedona AZ.  Research Biologist

Conducted water and soil quality studies in Verde River Watershed, Northern AZ. Partnered with northern AZ high schools in continuing environmental monitoring activities of the Verde River Watershed as an extension of the Verde Watershed Watch Network (VWWN) program, Northern AZ.

Northern Arizona University College of Engineering & Technology, Flagstaff AZ. Water Quality Consultant

Developed physicochemical, benthic macroinvertebrate and microbiological assessment protocols for the VWWN in accordance with USEPA and ADEQ guidelines.  Collected and analyzed water quality samples and data for physicochemical, biological, and hydrological parameters for the Verde River Watershed.  Developed water quality indices (WQI) for comparative analyses of water quality parameters of tributaries within the Verde River Watershed.
