| Through the Office of Navajo Government Development, with funding from the Native American Housing Assistance and Self-Determination Act (NAHASDA), completed Community Land Use Plans for five Chapters of the Navajo Nation. The Community Plans are an important component for each of the Chapters electing to establish local governance under the Navajo Nation Local Governance Act, which allows the chapters to exercise local authority over matters such as land use and zoning. The community-based plan elements include land use, thoroughfares, open space, community facilities, and housing, as well as implementation strategies. The project required extensive community participation, development of a community needs assessment, a land suitability analysis, and an infrastructure analysis. | ||||
