Woodcutting Skill Guide

Woodcutting is an easy skill because it gives lots of experience, and it's not very hard to level. In case you haven't figured it out, woodcutting is cutting down trees that are in the RuneScape world. To cut down a tree, make sure you have an axe (a hatchet, a battle axe WON'T WORK) in your inventory. Then go up to a tree, and left click on it. You will attempt to cut down the tree. Your woodcutting level and the value of the axe that you are using will determine if you cut down the tree. After a few tries, even if you are using a bronze axe and your woodcutting level is 1, you should cut it down.

Hatchets

There are seven hatchets you can use to cut down trees. From order of least valuable to most valuable are listed below:

Bronze
Iron
Steel
Black
Mithril
Adamantite
Rune
The more valuable the hatchet is, the greater the probability of you cutting the tree down. Look in the smithing tables to find out what level you need to smith those hatchets.

Note: Black hatchets are not smithable

Log Chart

Below is the chart of all the trees that you can cut down in RuneScape. Remember Anything marked in teal means it is for members only.

Tips

If you want to level your woodcutting level quickly then here is a chart for your level and what you should cut (this chart is only for members because if you are on freeplay you can only cut regular trees):
Your woodcutting level Suggested Tree
1-20 regular trees
20-70 Oak
70-95 Willow
95-99 Maple

If you are cutting regular trees, go to a big forest and just walk around cutting trees, some suggested forests:
West of Lumbridge, East of Draynor Village
West of Ice Mountain
Northwest of Varrock, East of Edgeville
Southeast of Varrock
If you are a member, bring a knife and fletch the logs into arrow shafts (this will give fletching experience without filling up your inventory)
Un-healthy trees (near Draynor Manor) and some wilderness trees can't be cut down
Woodcutting takes up tiny bits of fatigue
All of the members only trees except magic can give more than one log, up to approximately 25 per tree
Some trees e.g. Oak, grow and you are able to cut more wood from it as it
has been in its place longer
