Crafting Skill Guide

Crafting is one of the big money makers in Runescape. Although it's not the best for armour, it's most definitely profitable when you are able to make Ruby Amulets. This guide will teach you how to get it all done. Go to the Crafting Tab for a more advanced level table.

Pottery
Pottery makes practically no money, but it's a good place to start. The only thing you'll be able to make at level 1 is pots. In order to make any pottery though, follow these directions.

1. Go to the mine field Southeast of lumby and find a soft rock that has claw in it. You can also get clay in the Dwarven mines, north of Falador and south of Ice Mountain.

2. Next, take the clay to the castle in Varrock (Go west of Barbarian Village), find the Kitchen and there should be a sink. The next room should have a bucket respawn, get 1 to 3 buckets. Fill the buckets with water by clicking on the bucket in your inventory and clicking the sink. (Right next to the Range)

3. Next, turn the clay soft by clicking the bucket filled with water, then going back in your inventory to click the clay. This should empty the bucket and turn the hard clay into soft clay.

4. Take the soft clay to Barbarian Village and enter the southwest house. In the house should be 2 pottery wheels and a pottery oven. Click your clay and then click the pottery wheel. You should get 3 options... Pot, Pie Dish, and Bowl. If this is your first time, make a pot. Do this until all of your clay becomes Unfried Pots.

5. The last step requires you to fry the pot, just like in real pottery. Click the Unfried Pot and then click the Pottery Oven. The pot will either become hard and usable, or break and disappear. This will happen, so don't get discouraged when it does.

It is suggested that once you reach level 5, to start making Pie Dishes. They give you a good amount of experience that should get you up to a nice level in no time. Here is the level tables for pottery.

Pot lvl 1 12 Exp
Pie Dish lvl 5 25 Exp
Bowl lvl 7 25 Exp

Jewelry
Silver Jewelry requires a level 20 miner/smither and Gold Jewelry requires a level 40 miner/smither, since that's what is required to make their Bars. Silver requires level 16 to make Holy Symbols and Gold requires level 5. Let's start with Silver.

1. Mine some silver at the Soft Rock Minefield southeast of Varrock. You can also get Silver north of Al Kharid in the Scorpion's Pit.

2. Go to either Lumbridge or Al Kharid and find a Furnace. Click the Silver and click the furnace, this should turn the lump of silver into a silver bar.

3. Go to the Crafting Store in Al Kharid and buy a Symbol Mould, this should cost 5gp. You must have this item in your inventory when melting silver bars.

4. Take the silver bars and the mould to the Furnace. Click the Silver bar and click the furnace, this should give you 2 options (Holy Symbol of Saradomin or Unholy Symbol of Zamorak). Click Holy Symbol of Saradomin and your silver bar will be melted into a Holy Symbol if you have the mould in your inventory.

5. Now, buy a pair of shears and go to Lumbridge Farms. Shear the Sheep and get some wool. Take the wool to Lumbridge Castle, going up to the 3rd floor in the left tower. Click the wool and then click the Spinning Wheel. This will turn the wool into a Ball of Wool.

6. Last but not least, click the Ball of Wool and click the Holy Symbol. This should turn it into an Unblessed Holy Symbol. To bless it, go to the Monastery northeast of Barbarian Village. You will need 31 prayer to go upstairs. Once you have that, go upstairs and talk to Brother Jared. This will not give you any crafting experience at all, but it will give you a nice prayer enhancing necklace.

Gold Jewelry is almost the same, However when it comes to rings and necklaces.. you do NOT require a ball of wool. You will need the proper moulds though, which you can get at the same Crafting Shop. It is recommended that you create Necklaces and sell them at the Gold Jewelry shop in Port Sarim, this will give you about 2k if no one else has sold there and if you have about 25 gold bars. Rings aren't as valuable so stick with Necklaces if you can. The big difference though between Gold and Silver is that Gold can become worth more when gems are added to them. Here's how to make Gold Amulets.

1. Mine a gold nugget from Al Kharid, Karamja Island, or the mine field near Rimmington.

2. Take the gold nugget to a furnace and smelt it into a Gold Bar just like you would with Silver.

3. Buy an amulet mould at the Crafting shops in either Al Kharid or Rimmington. The mould should cost 5gp.

4. Take the gold bar and the mould to the furnace and make an amulet. You can also make Amulets that contain gems in them. These are worth more then normal gold jewelry.

5. Shear a sheep to get some wool, then take the wool and turn it into a ball of wool like you would with silver.

6. String the amulet.

After stringing an Amulet with a gem, you may be able to enchant them. Enchanting them allows you to give amulets an enhancing power. Each gem has a different effect and require a different magic level to enchant. Here's the Jewelry table.

Level Tables for Jewelry
Item Bar Level Exp. Gained
Holy Symbol (Saradomin) Silver lvl 16 50 Exp
Holy Symbol (Zamorak) Silver lvl 16 50 Exp
Ring Gold lvl 5 15 Exp
Necklace Gold lvl 6 20 Exp
Amulet Gold lvl 8 30 Exp

Now gems aren't exactly ready to be put into Gold Jewelry when they aren't cut. To cut them, you'll need to buy a chisel, which you can find at a Crafting Shop or in a General Store. Once you have an uncut gem and a chisel, you can cut the gem by clicking the chisel, then clicking the uncut gem. This will cut the gem and make it ready for jewelry. You can get gems by mining and luckily getting them or buying them from a gem store in falador. (They don't respawn so odds are gems won't be there.) Here's the level table for gems.

Leather
Leather making is probably the more popular crafting skill, mostly because you can gain experience fast. In order to make leather, you need cow hides which you can obviously get from Cows. Here's the directions on how to make leather.

1. You will need to kill a cow in order to gain cow hide. Cow's are level 8 so should only be a trouble when your combat level is lower then 6. Get a good amount of cow hides before going to the next step. Cows can be found near the Crafting Guild, Varrock Farms

2. Take the cow hide to a tanner, you can find one at Al Kharid. He will charge you a gp per cow hide so bring as much gp as you have cow hides.

3. Once you have leather, you'll need some needles and some thread. You can buy both at the Crafting store in Al Kharid. 3 needles and 20 threads should do. Bring about 100gp, that should be more then enough.

4. Click the needle and click the leather, this should give you 3 items to choose from. Leather, Boots, and Gloves. If your level 1 in crafting, start with gloves.

Sometimes the thread will run out, hence why you need to buy more then one. Here's the level tables for leather.

Gloves lvl 1 13.5 Exp
Boots lvl 7 16.5 Exp
Armour lvl 14 25 Exp

Glassblowing
Glassblowing is a members skill. With Glassblowing, you can make Vials for herblaw, Orbs for your battle staffs, and Beer Glasses for... well? Beer. This is what you need to do to make glass.

1. Obtain a Glass Blower. You can find this and any other glass blowing items on Entrana Island. (You can go there by taking the ship in Port Sarim).

2. Next, make sodium carbonate. You'll need some seaweed which are available at Entrana Island as well. Pick the seaweed from one of the island tree's branches. Use it on a range and you'll get Sodium Carbonate. While your at it, take an empty bucket and get some sand from the island as well.

3. Now take the Glass Blower, The Sodium Carbonate, and the Bucket of Sand to a furnace. This will make molten glass. With molten glass, take the glassblower and you'll get the chance to choose 3 items. Vial, Orb, or Beer Glass.

Each item obviously has it's own advantages but of course each item has their requirements. Here's the level table for Glass items.

Level Tables for Glass
Item Level Exp. Gained
Beer Glass lvl 3 37.5 Exp
Vial lvl 33 55 Exp
Orb lvl 46 72.5 Exp

Crafting Guild
The Crafting Guild is the best place to get what you need fast. You gain gain exp levels fairly quickly here with the right tools. In order to be worthy of the crafting guild, you'll need level 40 crafting and a brown crafting apron. Here's all the benefits of the crafting guild.

- Mining field right within the guild, conntain silver, clay and gold rocks... half soft and half hard.
- Cow field right outside of the guild, yoou can get a large amount of cow hides and not have to go far.
- Tanner right inside the guild on the seccond floor, making it all that much easier to get leather.
- Several mould respawns. Ranging from Holly Symbol (Saradomin) to Gold Amulet Moulds.
- A Sink on the second floor, bring a buckket and have the ability to make soft clay right in the same place as you mined it.
- A pottery wheel and pottery oven on the first floor. Use the soft clay you just made in the guild and make those bowls to get fast exp.

All in all, the crafting guild is the best place after you reach level 40 crafting. Once you learn to use this place effectively, you'll become a top crafter in practically no time.
