Combat Skill Guide

Combat is the most important group of skills in RuneScape. Why? Because every other skill revolves around helping your combat. To gain combat experience fight beings in the RuneScape world. 1/4 of your experience always goes towards hitpoints. If you fight controlled then 1/4 of your experience will go towards each combat skill. (attack, defense, strength, and hitpoints) If you fight +3 to a skill (for example strength) then 3/4 of your experience will go towards strength, and 1/4 will go towards hitpoints. RuneScape Central has a massive database of all the monsters in RuneScape. Click here to go to our Monster Database to see what to fight.

The Colour Combat Level System

If you haven't yet noticed, when you try to attack something, it has a 'level'. This level is the rating of the monster. The darker the red, the harder the monster would be to you. The lighter the green, the easier the monster would be. If it is a non-playing-character, as in it isn't a real player, the colour rating system compares your hit points level with its combat level. If it is a real player, your combat level will be compared with his/her combat level. In case of two real players having the same combat level, these two players will see each others combat levels as white.

Dieing
Dieing really isn't that bad in RuneScape. If you die you go back to Lumbridge. When you die, you will lose all your items except for your 3 most valuable items. Note: You will NOT keep stackable items such as money or runes. If you attack someone in the wilderness you will notice that you will get a skull over your head. That skull remains there for 20 minutes if you don't attack someone. If you attack someone with a skull over your head, then your 20 minute period starts again. If you die with a skull over your head you keep NOTHING! Your stats will remain the same if you die.

The Wilderness
The Wilderness is a huge area in RuneScape that allows players to attack each other. Let's say your combat level is 25. When you enter the Wilderness you will start at level 1. This means that people with a combat level within 1 of you can attack you. At level 10, you can attack players with a combat level of 15-35. Warning! Players with a level 35 combat can attack you in level 10 wilderness! The indicator which tells you what Wilderness level you are in is located at the bottom right of the screen. The wilderness is not mapped on the official RuneScape map, but it is on our map. The wilderness extends to level 48 for Freeplay, and 56 for members.

Dueling

Dueling is a members only feature. Dueling allows two players to engage in combat without having to go to the wilderness. If you die in a duel, you end up in Lumbridge with full health. To request a duel with another player, right click on him/her and click duel with ____. That will send a duel request to the person you want to duel with. If they accept your request the duel screen will open up. If someone sends a duel request to you, to accept you must request to duel with them. In the duel screen there are a few things you will see.

Your stake
Opponent's stake
Your inventory
Checkbox for 'No retreating'
Checkbox for 'No prayers'
Checkbox for 'No magic'
Checkbox for 'No weapons'
'Accept' button
'Decline' button
Not only does dueling allow two players to see who is a better fighter, but it also allows them to put up a stake. The winner of the duel is the person who kills his/her opponent. If you kill your opponent in a duel, ONLY their stake will appear on the ground, as well as bones. To put up a stake, click on an item in 'Your inventory' and it will be added to your stake.
'Opponent's stake' shows your opponent's stake.
'Your inventory' shows everything in your inventory. To add an item to your stake, click on it.
The no retreating checkbox allows to players to fight to death. If this checkbox is filled, no one can retreat, or teleport out of the duel.
The 'No prayers' checkbox disallows the use of prayers during the whole duel.
The 'No magic' checkbox disallows the use of magic during the whole duel.
'No weapons' disallows the use of ALL worn items. Not just weapons.
If you and your opponent click the 'Accept' button you will be brought to the next screen which shows a list of both your stakes, and what is allowed and what is not. In that screen there is an accept button also, and if you and your opponent accept, your duel will start.
The 'Decline' button closes the duel screen.

Tips for Combat

To get combat experience quickly, fight aggressive (monsters that will attack you) low-level monsters.
It's true, combat is a pretty boring skill to train. Even I think so. One of the easiest way to gain combat experience without the boring attacking of other monsters, is to fight aggressive low-level monsters. For example, fight Deadly Red Spiders (level 36).
For good loot, and good experience, without too much damage to you, fight monsters that have the same level as your hitpoints level.
