Fishing Skill Guide

Fishing
Fishing is by far the most popular Skill. Fishing allows you to catch fish which in turn has better healing power then regular cooked meat or bread. Fishing is also very profittable when you raise in levels. In this guide, I will teach you how to use the fishing items successfully. You can buy fishing equipment at the fishing store in Port Sarim, east of Draynor Village. (You may have to go around the fence) Remember that in order to eat fish, ya gotta cook it.

Net\Big Net
The Net is the starting point of your fishing. You will only be able to use the net when you first begin your fishing. To begin fishing with a net, you will need to find a spot where you can use the net to fish. Fishing spots will look like the picture beside this text. See the place with the bubbles? That's the place where you click.

The best place to start using your net is next to the Wizards tower, in between the Wizards Tower and Draynor Village. Here, there will be 3 fishing spots. All of them are for netting, so net away. Now you won't catch fish everytime, but when you do, you'll catch Shrimp.

Once you gain level 15 fishing, you will now be able to catch anchovies. Anchovies have no real difference with Shrimps. You will get more Fishing experience though. You could also use Anchovies and put it on a Pizza. See the cooking guide for more details on that.

Members have the option to use Big Nets. Big Nets can catch Mackerel. To catch Mackerel, you'll need level 16 fishing. Mackerel gives alil more experience then Shrimps but heals like 2 shrimps. You can catch these at Catherby Shore and in the Fishing Guild.

You could also catch Cod's with big nets. You'll need level 24 fishing to catch but you get alot of experience for catching them! Cod's can heal 7 hitpoints, one more then Mackerel. You can also catch these at Catherby Shore and in the Fishing Guild.

The best fish you can catch with a big net is Bass. Bass requires level 46 fishing but heals 13! You also get alot of experience for catching these, more then double the experience you get from a cod!

Rod
Unlike nets, Rod's can catch big fish like Sardines and Herrings. To catch any of these you'll need a Rod and some Bait. Both which you can get at the fishing store. You can use the fishing rod at the same place as you used the net. Just right click the fishing spot and click bait fish. This will attempt to catch a fish. Don't worry, if you don't catch a fish, you get the bait back, but you will lose 1 bait when you catch a fish which is a good trade if ya think about it.

You can catch Sardines with level 5 fishing. Sardines heal 1 more hitpoint then Shrimp but you get 4 times as much experience. It might be wise to switch to these at level 5 other then waiting til you catch Anchovies.

Once you reach level 10 fishing, you'll have a slight chance of catching a Herring. Herrings heal one more then Sardines and give 10 more fishing experience for catching them.

Pikes are one of the best fish you can catch with a Rod and Bait. Pikes can't be caught in the normal spots, you'll have to find a spot where you fly fish. There's the one near Barbarian Village which you can use. To catch, bring a Rod and some bait and right click the fly fishing spot, then click bait. Pikes require level 25 fishing and heal 8 hitpoints.

Fly Rod
Fly Fishing is very similiar to regular Rod Fishing. You'll need a Fly Rod and some feathers for bait. You can buy feathers from the Fishing Store in Port Sarim or you can get feathers by killing chickens. You'll need alot of fathers, since you can catch alil faster here then regular rod fishing. The best spot for Fly Fishing is west of Barbarian Village, right next to the bridge. There should be 2 spots. You could also fly fish near Lumbridge Castle. You'll need level 20 fishing to start Fly Fishing, here's what you can catch...

Trout is one of the main fish you'll see when Fly Fishing, as your level gets higher, you'll catch these more frequently. Trouts can heal 7 hit points and give you 50 fishing experience.

Once you reach level 25 fishing, you'll have a chance to catch Salmon. Salmon heals 2 more hitpoints then trout and gives 20 more experience. The best fish you can get from fly fishing.

Harpoon
Harpoon fishing is the more popular way of fishing. You can catch some good fish when harpooning. You'll need level 30 fishing to start and one of the best spots to harpoon fish is at Karamja Island. You can go to Karamja Island by boat at Port Sarim. The trip will cost about 30 gp to go there and 30 gp to get back. So bring 60gp with you.

Tuna is the first thing you'll see when harpooning. You'll catch a great amount of tuna no matter your level. They give a good amount of experience though and heal 10 hitpoints.

The main money maker of fishing. When your level 50 fishing, you'll begin to see these when harpooning. They heal 14 hitpoints and give about 100 experience for catching it. 20 experience more then tuna.

The Shark is the best fish you can catch. They heal 20 hitpoints and give 110 experience for catching em. You can catch these at Catherby Shore or in the Fishing Guild.

Lobster Cage
The Lobster cage is one of the most popular fishing equipment. Lobster Cages can only catch one kind of fish, but the fish it catches is rather popular. To us it, go to Karamja and right click where you'd use the Harpoon. You should get the option to Cage fish.

The Lobster is the only thing you can catch with a Lobster Cage (obviously but the lobster is pretty profitable. It heals 12 hitpoints and gives 90 experience for catching it.

Oily Fishing Rod
The Oily Fishing Rod is simply a regular rod that's oil'd. You'll need to be a member to get the oil, and you'll need level 25 herblaw to make it. Talk to the Fishing Merchant in Port Sarim and he'll tell you all about it. You'll need level 53 fishing to use it and of course, some bait. The only place known at the moment where you can use this is Zamorak Dungeon, the lava spot to be exact.

The Lava Eel is the only thing known that you can catch with an Oily Rod. You only get 30 experience for catching one but it heals 14 hitpoints.
