Michael McMahan is the new Democratic Congressman for the 13th district of New York (Staten Island). McMahan is for a comprehensive economic program to spur economic growth and provide direct relief for those who need to get back on their feet, responsible withdrawal from Iraq, the Employee Free Choice Act for facilitating honest union votes, fair trade that raises the wages and standards for all workers, preventing workplace accidents through advanced technology and rational working conditions, a living national minimum wage, prevailing national wage for all construction, large scale investments in our infrastructure of roads, ports, energy, telecomunications, water and waste systems, bridges, schools, public housing with particular attention to fast mass transit with federal support, all of which will contribute to an improving economy. He is particularly eager to improve the environment with public parks, improved recycling of dumped products especially the more toxic ones, green building standards, lower carbon emissions and beautiful open spaces. He helped prevent a wood burning plant from being built, is supported by the League of Conservation Voters and other environmental groups. He knows we need to lower greenhouse gas emmissions by half by 2050 with more energy-efficient technologies.
