Ben Cardin is the Junior U.S. Senator from Maryland who won his seat in 2006. He serves in five important committees: Foreign Relations, Environment and Public Works, Judiciary, Budget, Small Business. He opposes Bush's plan to escalate troop levels in Iraq and calls for draw down of American troops in Iraq. He is helping to push ethics reform in the Senate. He introduced a a bill to fix Medicare part D and to bring down the cost of prescription drugs. He says we need a change of course in Iraq now and not escalating violence. He believes we should move toward health insurance coverage for all. He believes we need real ethics reform in government. He believes we need a high priority in educating our children. He wants to increase women's rights. He places a high priority on environmental reform so the environment will get better instead of getting worse as is now the case. He wants to reduce the influence of special interests in government and to increase the influence of all of the people. He wants more transparency in government and less secrecy.
