Gabrielle Giffords is the new Congresswoman from Southern Arizona district 8. She has been appointed to the House Armed Services Committee. She will help provide oversight to the Pentagon and other Administration military policies. She's a Democrat elected in a conservative-leaning district and is only 37 years old. She is for an increase in the minimum wage, no Congressional pay raises until we have a balanced budget, eliminate corporate welfare, improved access to health care, a stronger public education, support for rural primary clinics, increased Medicaid eligibility, emergency contraception for rape victims, crack down on domestic abusers, right to choose, environmental protection and no benefit cuts for veterans. She has an excellent record in the Arizona State Senate where she was the youngest woman ever elected there. She is experienced in international relations as President of the Atlantic Association of Young Policitical Leaders, a Young Leader's Forum Fellow and is a German Marshall Fund Manfred-Warner Fellow. She was named Legislator of the Year by the Arizona Planning Association and by the Mental Health Association of Arizona.
