I would like to get in touch with descendants of Gilbert Thereon LOOMIS. He was born 23 Dec 1835 in Martinsburg, New York to Amasa & Frances (THOMPSON) LOOMIS. His wife's name was Lydia Hannah (BROWN), born Nov 1838 in Saline County, Illinois. They had six children:
1. Pamelia Frances (LOOMIS) BENSON, born May 1865 in Beatrice, Nebraska.
2. Sanford W. LOOMIS, born July 1867 in Beatrice, Nebraska.
3. Amasa Samuel LOOMIS, born May 1869 in Beatrice, Nebraska.
4. Bennett S. LOOMIS, born Nov 1872 in Beatrice, Nebraska.
5. Gilbert LOOMIS, born around 1875 in Beatrice, Nebraska.
6. Minnie Myrtle (LOOMIS) CONN, born 28 Sep 1879 in Washington Territory.

In 1857, Gilbert Thereon LOOMIS was one of the founders of my town, Beatrice, Nebraska. This summer marks the 150th anniversary of Beatrice, and the community is planning a celebration. The festivities would be even more special if descendants of the founders could attend. If you are a descendant of this family, or know where I can contact one, please contact me at: [email protected].

5874. Abigail Loomis

The dates of birth of Abigail and the date of her parents' marriage are given in several sources. It was not uncommon during that period for a man and woman to establish a common law marriage relationship when a minister or justice of the peace was not available and then get married at a later time.
