Jermemiah and Sarah and their seven children left East Haddam, CT in 1800. They left in a small mud boat, of his own construction, and went to a point about one and one-half miles west of Palmyra, NY on Mud Creek. Here he located and built a grist mill. About the year 1805 he moved to Pultneyville, NY, where he built and operated a grist mill and saw mill until his death in 1811.

"He was a Revolutionary War soldier and moved to Richmond, Berkshire Co., MA with his father. He received land in Richmond from his father in several transactions from 1792 to 1807."

"He enlisted for service in the Revolution as a private from Richmond, MA. and applied for a pension, April 20, 1818, while residing in Durham, Greene Co., N.Y. He received payments until his death in 1835. His service record is documented as follows in "Massachusetts Soldiers and Sailors in the War of the Revolution," [1899, by the Secretary of the Commonwealth]: "Private, Capt. Aaron Rowley's co., Major David Rosseter's detachment of Berkshire Co. militia; enlisted Feb. 23, 1777; discharged April 7, 1777; service 1 mo. 13 days, at Ticonderoga; also, Capt. Amos Rathburn's co., Major Caleb Hyde's detachment of militia; enlisted July 8, 1777; discharged July 20, 1777; service 13 days; company marched to reinforce Northern Army and was dismissed 97 miles from home; also, Capt. Aaron Rowley's co., Col. John Brown's detachment of Berkshire Co. militia; enlisted Sept. 5, 1777; discharged Sept. 25, 1777; service 20 days, at and to the Northward of Pawlet (now Vermont); also, descriptive list of men raised in Berkshire Co. in 1779 to serve in the Continental Army; age 21 yrs.; stature 5 ft. 7 in.; complexion light; engaged for town of Richmond; delivered to Ensign Hubble.
Documents in his pension file [W16582] describe the following additional service not recorded above. In December 1775 he enlisted for one year in Capt. Moses Ashley's Company in the regiment commanded by Col. John Patterson in the Massachusetts line of the continental establishment. He served the full year and during that time marched to Boston and Cambridge. On July 22, 1779 he enlisted again for nine months in the 1st Massachusetts Regiment commanded by Joseph Vose. During this period he served in New Jersey and at West Point, NY and was discharged from service at the highlands near West Point on April 22, 1780.
His father conveyed land in Richmond to him in several transactions from 1792 to 1801. He died in Windham, Greene Co., N.Y., October 10, 1835 and was buried at the Stone Bridge Cemetery. His widow applied for a pension on June 4, 1838 when she was a resident of Windham, Greene Co., N.Y. and it was granted to her."


5265. Samuel Francis

B. Wethersfield, Conn, Oct 21, 1752; m. Dorcas Sexton, abt 1780, She died Oct 8, 1840. Went with father's family to Southwick, Mass abt 1770. Later in l ife he resided in Lewis Township, Essex Co., NY. In 1831 he settled in Girard, Erie, PA in a part of the town where his children made homes for themselves and which was known as the "Francis neighborhood." While living in MA, he enlisted as a soldier in the War of the Revolution. He d. Jan 31, 1840. Children: Levi, William, Alvin, Stephen, Anna, Hannah.


5279. Robert Francis

Robert Francis was a six-month recruit in the American Revolution, 18 August 1779 - 9 December 1779, in Colonel Webb's 9th Regiment (ref: Ancient History of Wethersfield, Connecticut). He was a farmer.
