1232. Josiah Loomis Jr.

He removed to Simsbury, Conn., and from there to Egremont, Mass. He was a member of Episcopalian Church at Great Barrington in 1770.
Josiah Loomis was born in Windsor, Conn on 11 March 1708/09; m 26 April 1732 to Abigail Bacon of Middletown, Conn. He moved to Simsbury, Conn. and from there to Ancram. It appears that his brothers Benajah, Ebenezer, Thomas, and Jacob were already in Ancram or they all came together. Josiah Loomis was an ore digger at the iron mines on Livingston Manor and had been a tenant for 12 years under Livingston by 1751. He, with others, considered that they held their lands under the authority of grants to be secured from Massachusetts, and refused to pay rent to the Patroon. Loomis was "warned off" and his crops destroyed in 1753 (Hist. of Columbia County, NY 1878 pp. 37-38). By 1770 Josiah was a member of the Episoppalian Church in Great Barrington, Mass and living in Egremont, Mass. His brothers remained behind in Ancram.

3264. Andrew Loomis

No issue.

1233. Benajah Loomis

Removed to Ancram, NY.

3275. Mark Loomis

Baptized "in extremis" (Stiles).

3276. Sarah Loomis

Sarah was baptized under her mother's account. Her father probably had died after conception.

1234. Ebenezer Loomis

Resided Blenheim, NY.
E-mail from Steven Chain: My GG Grandmother was Eleanor Angeline Loomis. Born Dec. 6, 1823 in Dutchess County, New York. My information gives her father as David Loomis (1795-1858) and mother as Hannah Norwood. Her brother was Reuben Loomis who rode with Grierson's Raiders in the Civil War. I have a lineage for Eleanor but no documentation. The lineage is: David LOOMIS 1795-1858 Reuben LOOMIS 1741-1817 Ebenezer LOOMIS 1736-1792 Josiah LOOMIS 1684- Sergeant Daniel LOOMIS 1657- John LOOMIS 1622-1688 Joseph LOOMIS, Sr 1590-1685
Comment; Elisha Loomis, in the 1908 edition, indicates that another Azubah Loomis was born to this couple on 30 Sep 1738; however, since the first daughter named Azubah had not died as of then, it may have been the daughter of one of Ebenezer's brothers or cousins.

3278. Giles Loomis

No issue.
