Notes from Bud Schafer:
From the Walter Percy Butler Genealogy publication c. 1939 (my pgs 49/50)
"No. 52. Gideon Butler, 3rd son of Gideon and Abigail (Olmstead) Butler (No. 28) was b. Jan. 29, 1768, bapt. Feb. 14, 1768, W. Hartford, Conn,; d. Feb. 14, 1837, possibly at Payson, Ill.; m. She had ten children:" (Death date is not a typo, Feb 14 is listed as both his date of Baptism and his date of death - Bud)

The children are as follows (if a number preceeds the enumeration of the child, then that child is enumerated further in this publication. The remarks in "( )" are mine - Bud):

90 1. Sally Butler, b. Dec. w, 1794 (the "w" not my typo, probably a "2")
91 2. Ruth Butler, b. Nov. 28, 1795
-- 3. Hiram Butler, b. Aug 12, 1797; d. March 18, 1812

Author's (WPB's) reference listed as follows:
"Records of this branch were obtained from Elmer Wells Butler, Melbourne, Florida who had a well prepared record in 1894."

EBENEZER IS THE FIRST KNOW CHILD TO HAVE REMOVED FROM CT:
pb 126, Gideon Butler III the father of Ebenezer Wells Butler (7th child). Ebenezer was a farmer in NY in early life and taught school there. He moved to Payson, IL in 1836 and engaged in farming until he moved to Griggsville. He had no children until he was 55 years old. WPB Genealogy does not indicate where in NY but niece Sarah Elizabeth Holmes (daughter of his sister Mary Butler Holmes, pg 125/126) resided in Binghampton (sp), NY so my guess is that is where Ebenezer resided also. Ebenezer was born in Salisbury, CT and died in Greggsville, Ill 27 Mar 1889. His 1st wife Julia Holmes died in Payson, Ill on 19 Sep 1839. He m. 2nd Cynthis Adeline Tiffany. No ch. are enumerated by m1, 4 ch. enumerated m2. Bud

SECOND KNOWN CHILD TO HAVE REMOVED FROM CT:
wpb pg 50 WPB has his Cyrus' birthdate as June 12, 1807 but his sister Delia was born Jan 6, 1807. Pg 128 has it as 12 Jun 1809, I believe that to be more correct. Cyrus is con't in this publication as #95, pg 128: 9th child of Gideon III, They had 1 child Ella who married Horace N. Burdsall and they had 3 children, all born and resided in Payson, IL.

THIRD KNOWN CHILD TO HAVE REMOVED FROM CT; RESIDED IN SANDUSKY, OHIO:
"No. 96. Samuel W. Butler, 10th child of Gideon III and Sally (Wells) Butler (No. 52) was b. June 15, 1813; d. Aug. 7, 1896, Sandusky, Ohio; m. Oct. 25, 1839 to Clarissa Boalt. His early life was spent in Buffalo. He had 5 children." (none are mentioned as having settled in NY State).

1) John Morris Butler b. July 19, 1842, resided in Ogontz,PA, they had 6 children, "wife Sarah E. Cooke was dau of the financier Jay Cooke." wpb pg 128.

2) "Jay Caldwell Butler b. Sept. 3, 1844; d. July 13, 1885. m. Oct. 30, 1873 to Elizabeth Hubbard. They had 3 children." May have resided in Sandusky, author does not say.

3) "George Reber Butler b. April 3, 1848, Sandusky, Ohio; resided there most of his lire; m. Nov. 5, 1873 to Susam Caldwell Barney. They had 9 children."

4) "Charles A. Butler b. Feb. 14, 1850, Sandusky, where he usually resided; m. May 29, 1879, Philadelphia to Sarah English Ward, dau. of John and Sarah English (Paris) Ward. Sarah Butler was b. Feb. 24, 1857, Philadelphia. Apparently both living in 1896. Charles was with his brother George R. Butler in the manufacturing of sash, doors, blinds and other woodwork. He was the father of 2 children."

5) "Frank B. Butler b. May 15, 1857; resided in Sandusky; m. June 21, 1886, Camden, N.J. to Anabel Drovin. They had 2 children."

(The other seven children of Gideon Butler III are enumerated as having resided and/or died in CT.)

2612. Amos Butler

He and his brother, Elihu, published "The Commerical Advertiser" in NY.

2613. Elihu Butler

Notes from Bud Schafer:
"He and his brother, Amos, published "The Commercial Advertiser" in New York. He mar. Julia Pomeroy of Northampton, NY." "lived in Cleveland, Ohio,...they had 10 children."

I find no Northampton, NY on the map. I suspect this was an error and that WPB meant to state that Elibu and Julia married in Northampton, Mass. Northampton, Mass is straight north of West Hartford, CT., the birthplace of his (Elibu's) father and likely his also.

Abigail Arnold

Name on Killingworth records was spelled ARNELL.
