The family removed first to Lebanon and thence to Litchfield in 1720-21.
The Buell Family Genealogy lists his marriage to Mary Loomis, daughter of Thomas Loomis and Hannah Porter. This conflicts with the Loomis Family Genealogy. I chose the marriage to Mary Loomis, daughter of Deacon John & Mary Loomis because of the birth dates of the two women. Mary Loomis, dau. of Thomas, was born 2 Sep 1683. The marriage of John Buell & Mary Loomis was on 20 Nov 1695. If John had married the daughter of Thomas Loomis, she would have been 12 years old. It is far more likely that John married the daughter of John Loomis since she was 22 years old on the date of their marriage.
1174. Abigail Loomis
Possibly married John Morey or David Wolcott (b. 3 MAR 1710/11 at Wethersfield, Conn.)
No issue.
Reverend Joseph Lyman (Yale College, 1767) was minister of the First Congregational Church in Hatfield, Hampshire County, Massachusetts for almost 55 years.
1182. Mary Loomis
According to the Loomis Generations of 1875, Mary is supposed to have married Elijah Fitch. However, the will of Captain Joseph Loomis, makes Elijah Fitch to be his son-in-law. Therefore, it's more likely that she married Ebenezer Reed.
Mary cannot have married Elijah Fitch "because the will of Captain Joseph Loomis, makes Elijah Fitch to be his son-in-law. Therefore it's more likely that she married, if at all, Ebenezer Reed."
This conclusion was also reached by John T. Fitch, author of "Descendants of the Reverend James Fitch" (1997). In a footnote on page 96, he says: "this was corrected in the 1908 edition, citing Will of Capt. Joseph Loomis, mentioning Elijah Fitch as his son-in-law." Later on page 227, he says that Mary Fitch married Ebenezer Reed. (BTW, this seems to be a very well researched book which includes a whole column of Loomis entries in the index.)
Interestingly, Mary Fitch and Ebenezer Reed's son Elijah Fitch Reed married the granddaughter of another Mary Loomis (of Jabez, Thomas, Thomas, Joseph). Thus my ancestry includes two descents from Joseph Loomis (see below). I would be glad to share what I have if you are interested.
1184. Phineas Loomis
Phineas was supposed to have married and had a son, Phineas, b. 1771.
1190. Joseph Adams
Graduated Yale, 1740.
