He [Ebenezer] removed to Colchester, Conn., where he had been accepted as an inhabitant of the town and [where he] received a grant of a home lot, 16 Mar 1703-04.
His will, 19 Sep 1745, proved 3 Jun 1746, bequeaths all his real estate to his only son, Ebenezer, to whom he also bequeathed "his Negro Cæsar, only with this condition that if Cæsar is a mind to choose a new master then my will is that my son Ebenezer shall sell him to such a master as the s'd Cæsar shall choose." Tradition says that Cæsar, who died 8 Aug 1774, age 55, remained with his young master, and died from drinking cold water after mowing. He [Ebenezer] also mentions in his will daughters Mary merrill land Prudence Rogerts; also granddaughters Abigail Gillett and Elizabeth Roberts, whose mothers were dead.Colchester Vital Records (Barbour)
