Jos. & Sarah Porter" in Stiles's "Ancient Windsor," Vol II, pg. 767. However, they did not have a son named Isaac and John is the correct spouse of Mary; Stiles calls her his 3rd wife and that is confirmed.

Mary

The identity of John's first wife is unknown. Different sources have speculated that the first wife of John was named Mary because of the use of the name Mary in the naming of the first daughter after the mother, which was a common practice of this family during that period of time.

Two oft cited candidates are Mary Hadley (of Salem, Mass.) and Mary Judd (of Farmington, Conn.). Mary Judd, b. 1644/45 in Hartford County, Connecticut, was the spouse of Thomas Loomis. Mary Hadley, b. 1657 in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, was probably married to a Mr. Paige/Page. She died in Glouster, Mass.

291. Elizabeth Loomis

Married Francis Griswold as his first wife. No issue from this marriage.

Francis Griswold

Probate Records of Norwich, Connecticut, Volumes 1–3 (Online database: NewEnglandAncestors.org, New England Historic Genealogical Society, 2003), (Abstracted by Jennie F. Tefft Gallup. 54. Deacon Joseph Loomis

From “A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 3,” by James Savage, p. 111: JOSEPH, son of John the first, Hannah, and Ann, born 10 Jan. 1678; Joseph, 13 Feb. 1681; Joseph, 28 Nov. 1682; Grace, 17 Mar. 1685; Lydia, 15 Apr. 1686, who died at 16 years.; and Sarah, 8 Jan. 1693.

Hannah Marsh

From "History of Ancient Windsor," p. 434: Dau. of John & Hepzibah Ford, who was the dau. of Thomas F. of W. and wid. of Richard Lyman.

301. Joseph Loomis

From Thomas Koch:
Joseph Loomis #117 needs to be eliminated. I just noticed that he has the exact same birthdate as Joseph Loomis #67. The death record specified that Joseph Loomis who died on 19 Mar 1683 was Joseph, son of Joseph, son of Joseph, and Windsor records only one birth on 28 Nov 1682. So I feel that Joseph Loomis #116 did not die young, and is in fact the ancestor of the children listed as those of Joseph Loomis #117.

Capt. John Webster

Another record shows John having been born February 26, 1673. Captain John Webster was one of the first settlers of Lebanon, Connecticut.

At a meeting of original proprietors of Lebanon, December 1697, who said that the land had been granted to them November 1, 1695, they set off a quantity of land designated opposite their names, and to John Webster nine acres and three yards. About the same time a "home lot" of fifteen acres was set off to him, bounded north-west by the highway; south-east by the home lot of George Webster, south-west by the small street, and north-east by a highway near the brook. March 1700, and April 1701, more land was "layed" out to him, and July 5, 1710, is recorded another grant of land to him.

August 5, 1712: John Webster of Lebanon buys of Dr. John Loomis land there and resells it to him the same day.

Dec 26, 1735: John Webster of Lebanon, Thomas Webster of Hebron, Josiah Webster and Jedediah Strong and his wife Elizabeth, all of Lebanon, they, John, Thomas, Josiah, and Elizabeth, being the only children of their late honorable father, John Webster of Lebanon, aforesaid, now deceased, and Grace Webster of said Lebanon, being the widow of said deceased, being minded by agreement to follow the estate both real and personal "to prevent disputes," they deed to her land in the Five Miles, etc.

There is no record of the deaths of his wives, but it is known that he is buried in the old cemetery at Lebanon.

55. Thomas Loomis

From “A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 3,” by James Savage, p. 114: THOMAS, Hatfield, son of the first John, married 31 Mar. 1680, Sarah, eldest daughter of Daniel White of the same, had John, born 1 Jan. 1681; Thomas, 20 Apr. 1684; and died 12 Aug. 1688. His widow married 12 Nov. 1689, John Bissell.

57. Sgt. Daniel Loomis Sr.

m. (1) on Dec. 23, 1680 Mary ELLSWORTH; (2) on July 9, 1713, to Widow Hannah DRAKE.

From "A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England," by James Savage, Vol. 3, p.111: DANIEL, Windsor, s. of John the first, m. 23 Dec. 1680, Mary, d. of Josiah Ellsworth, had Daniel, b. 15 Nov. 1682; Josiah, 1684; Job, 21 Jan. 1686; John, 11 Oct. 1688; Mary, 15 Jan. 1691; Isaac, 23 Aug. 1694; Abraham, 13 Dec 1696; Benjamin, 7 Feb. 1699; and Benajah, 20 Jan. 1702; and d. 25 June 1740.

Mary Ellsworth

Possible date of death is July 9, 1713. Savage lists Elizabeth's father as Joel.

Hannah Mills

Stiles lists "his" date of marriage as 1715; he indicates another source lists 1713.

59. Timothy Loomis

From “A Genealogical Dictionary of the First Settlers of New England, Vol. 3,” by James Savage, p. 114: TIMOTHY, Windsor, son of the first John, m. 20 Mar. 1689, Rebecca Porter, had Timothy, born 22 Feb. 1691; Ichabod, 25 Jan. 1693; Lois, 15 Aug. 1695, died next yr.; Ann, 15 June 1698; Rebecca, 24 May 1700; Uriah, 8 May 1703; and Obadiah, 4 Aug. 1705.
