Hi,

Larry Buerer and I have reserved the Arcata Veteran's Hall for some indoor flying.
This first time will be April 14th, one week after the next club meeting.
The time will be from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM.

This site has a fairly large floor plan but limited ceiling height. We didn't measure it but I'd estimate the floor at 35 x 60 feet, slightly smaller than a basketball court. The ceiling has beams at about 10 feet high so high powered or fast planes would not really be a good match. Aerobatics will be a challenge in this small of a space, don't plan on seeing much 3-D.

Larry and I flew E-Flight "Vapor"s and they were perfect for this space. Indoor helicopters would certainly work and any plane around 1 oz should be no problem. Heavier planes might be O.K. if they can, and do, fly slowly. The hall has windows and lamps (indoors, remember?).

Some of the cheapo $39 planes don't fly outdoors because they use infra red controls, not radio waves. The IR signals are overcome by IR from the sun so control is unpredictable and the planes fly poorly. If you have tried to fly any of these low cost "Mall" specials outdoors you know what I mean.  Bring them to our event and see how much better they fly in a big indoor space.

Along this line, bring anyone you know who might enjoy watching us or has an appropriate plane they would like to try. Maybe you, or a friend, have a child or grandchild who got one of these planes as a gift and has been frustrated by outdoor flying attempts? They just might have some success in this bigger space.

We will try to have a buddy box and trainer plane available but no promises.

The Veteran's Hall is at the WEST end of 14th street in Arcata. It is a large building with an old cannon in front, you can't miss it. There is only on street parking in a residential neighborhood, so you might have to look around for a place to park. From the South take the 14th street/HSU exit and turn left at the stop sign. From the North take the Sunset Avenue/H street exit. Go straight ahead on H street and turn right on 14th

This is a test event, nothing formal is planned. But I'd like to try some pylon racing if we can get a few similar planes together.

Any body and Every body is welcome. Larry and I reserve the right to prohibit planes, or flying, that we feel are inappropriate. We don't want to cause damage or injury, nothing personal, and our opinions are final. We rented the hall ($25/hr) and we are responsible for what goes on during this event.

If, as you leave, you feel that you have had a good time and want to chip in a buck or two, those donations will be accepted.

Jess
