In 1969 I enlisted in the United States Navy, went to boot camp at the
Navel Training Center in San Diego, CA, volunteered
for Submarines and was
sent to the Navel Submarine School in New London, CT, then to Pearl Harbor to
MY DIESEL SUBMARINE
I served on the USS TANG SS 563 from 1970 to 1972, in 1971 the Tang was deployed
to the Western Pacific attached to SubFlot 7, where we engaged in special operations
and training with the Navies of Japan and South Korea.
Our deployment then took us on a good will tour of Taiwan and Hong Kong, then a short deployment to Viet Nam
and the Philippines, then to Guam and our home port of Pearl Harbor.
Tang then engaged in AWS exercises until a over hall in the Pearl Harbor Ship Yard.
The Navy said my services were need in the flag office of
Commander Submarine Forces U.S. Pacific Fleet to my strongest objections.
While on Staff I was a Staff Rider on the , USS Gudgeon, USS Sailfish , and
USS Barbell also USS Barb, and USS Seadragon which was a taste of the nuclear
Navy, and finished my Navy career in Hawaii.
