Is God Against...?
Theme
This is the first lesson in a four part series asking the questions: Is God Against Sex? Is God Against His People Participating in Politics? Is God Against Money? Is God Against Changes Taking Place in His Church?
Is God Against Sex?
When I was a boy (I am presently 45 years old) there were some things one did not discuss openly. Sex was one of those topics. In fact, a lot of people thought it was a dirty word. One especially did not talk about sex at church! Fifty years ago, if a minister had preached the sermon, "Is God Against Sex?" it would have been considered a "moving" sermon for he would have MOVED that afternoon! However, times have changed. We live in a world gone mad. People are involved in every kind of deviant and perverse behavior imaginable. We had better find the nerve to discuss what makes us feel a bit uncomfortable, for the sakes of our young and perhaps our not so young people. Our young folks are getting so much information about the subject of sex. Not only are they getting information, they are getting instructions from television, movies, etc. Is this the correct information our children are receiving? We live in what I call the "music television" generation. I am told parents still have more influence on their children than anyone or anything else. I will have to argue that television is a very close second. Our children are growing up with "music television" and I dare anyone to tell me that anything good can come from it. Our kids are being told all the wrong things about sex.
Is God against sex?
Of course the obvious answer is no. God made us the way we are. He designed the human body and instilled within it certain needs and desires. He gave us something called the sexual drive. We know from scripture that God made the earth and everything in it including man and woman. (Genesis 1 and 2) Following the creation, the scripture tells us, "And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. And God blessed them; and God said to them, Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth." (Genesis 1:27-28) What was the very first commandment? "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth." In simple terms, have children. We see from the beginning, sex is a vital part of man's nature. Thus, marriage, the sexual relationship, conception, and childbirth are all a part of man's life from the beginning. (Genesis 1:31) The scripture tells the sexual relationship was designed to be pleasurable. Why? God wanted to ensure life on planet earth. We like to do that which gives us pleasure. "...the marriage bed is undefiled" (Hebrews 13:4) Joy, intimacy, and procreation all are a part of God's design for sex.
God is against sexual perversion.
Although God is not against sex, He is against sexual perversion. The scripture tells us, "Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled." (Hebrews 13:4) Sex is not to be between two men or two women. It does not matter how society pushes the homosexual agenda, homosexual behavior can never be pleasing to God. (Romans 1:24-27) Marriage is to be held in honor. There is nothing honorable about sex between two men or two women. Sex is to be a sacred act between a man and a woman who have made a commitment to one another for life. People who treat it as common have denied the sanctity of marriage and made it into an unholy thing.
A Message to All Our Young People
Young people find it difficult to overcome temptations. I found it difficult to overcome temptations as a youngster and I still do today. You young people must resist the pressure you receive from your peers. You will be pressured to conform and perhaps made to see "having sex" as trophy. A lot of good men and women have been destroyed by that which is intended to be holy and good. The devil always takes what God gives to be used in a holy manner and then tempt man to use it in an unholy way. We must remember however, God's way is best.
Conclusion
Is God against sex? No! He in fact is all for it. He created us with a sexual drive. He intended for it to be pleasurable. He is against perversion. He is against taking what is meant to be sacred and make it common.
