We are the River Rat Muzzle Loaders!
Our club was established in 1973, which makes us one of the oldest
and longest-lasting clubs in the Illinois River Valley. We credit this
to having a "tight-knit" membership and hard work provided by the
members.
�
Our membership is quite diverse in interests, covering several time
periods, and we boast having mountain men, voyageurs and longhunters.
The one medium that keeps and brings us all together is the muzzleloader.
�
We have one shooting event per month, held at our club grounds. All kinds
of targets are shot at, from metal, paper, to novelty. We usually have trade
guns, percussion and flintlock rifles and even some pistols, being shot at our
line. Occasionally, there will be some tradegun and shotgun matches, and we
set up tomahawk and knife and primitive archery matches as well.� Oh! And
let's not forget the cannon match that one of our members held once.

There are between two and three club rendezvous a year, and if the guys are
feeling ambitious, they will put on some kind of survival match. Usually there
will be a camp feed on Saturday night, and we have some fine musicians in our
lot.
