ABOUT RAFAEL KATZ

Seven years after his birth in Lecce, Italy, Rafael Katz picked up a pencil and started drawing crude comics.  His favorite subjects at the time were his parents and his brothers.  Several years later, Rafael picked up his first R. Crumb comic.  It was nine years after that that he decided to devote his life to painting.  Three years of intensive study of Chinese art in Taiwan and China grounded the inquisitive young Katz in a form of art that was very akin, in spirit, to studying and making music.  Rafael rounded out his study of art at such places as Brown University, FIT, Yale, and the Art's Student League.  Rafael's current work can be summarized as a melding of Chinese technique with Western themes and ideas.
