The motherboard is, in many ways, the most important component of your computer and not the processor, although the processor gets more attention. if the  procerssor is the brain of your pc then the motherboard and its major components (such as the BIOS,chipset, cache, etc.) are the major systems this brain uses to control the rest of the computer. having a good understanding of how the motherboard and its contained subsystems work is propably the most critical part of getting a good understanding of how computers work in general.

- uses a FCPGA type of processor like the Pentium II / III processors.

Socket  A
- uses the processors created by AMD like the AMD-Duron and Athlon.

Socket 423 & 478
- uses the Pentium 4 processor and are much powerful. Some      motherboards of this type are powered by the Double Data Rate ( DDR) type of memory.
