CHAPTER EIGHT She could hear the voices again, swirling around her, never really able to understand what was being said. The last few times she had fought against the darkness toward the voices, but after a few moments of struggle, she'd give into the darkness again. This time though it was almost as though a curtain was pulled back, allowing light to pour in, blinding her for a second. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Douglass blinked a few times trying to adjust her eyes to light. Taking a look around she realized she wasn't alone. Next to her bed staring back at her was a bleach blonde in black leather, he tried to get the attention from someone else in the room. He got up, and Douglass allowed her eyes to follow him. Willow. She was here too, with another person she couldn't place. "Douglass!" Willow cried as she rushed toward the bed, grabbing her friends hand. Tears were falling from the redheads emerald green eyes. "What happened?" Douglass was starting to panic at the pain she could see in her friends eyes. "Why am I in the hospital; was I in another car accident?" She closed her eyes trying to think what she had been doing last. "You don't remember?" Willow started to shake. Douglass shook her head, closing her eyes trying to concentrate; "you were coming to visit so we could do the spell I found. Tori and I were cleaning the apartment." "What spell?" Douglass gazed at the dark headed stranger when he said this. Willow squeezed her hand, at the sound of his voice. She had forgot he was there. "Douglass, the bleach blonde is Spike, you've talked to him a few times on the phone, and this is *Angel*, I think I may have told you about him once or twice." Willow stared into her friend's eyes, trying to send her a message to play along with it. "Angel?" Douglass stared at him, trying to figure out why he was in Denver. "I think so." Douglass looked down at the IV in her hand, shocked to see ugly scars circling her small wrists. "Willow, what in the hell happened?" "I think we should wait until the doctor comes." Angel stepped forward before Willow could answer the frightened females question. Douglass nodded, "Where's Tori?" Willow turned pale and started to look sick, "Oh my Goddess Willow, where is she? Is she okay?" Willow didn't know what to say. How was she going to tell Douglass about Tori without telling her everything? Then there was the fact if she should tell Douglass anything now. She just opened her eyes for the first time in a month and a half. Angel watched as Willow fought to control her emotions, and figure out how to handle her friends questions. She looked ready to get either sick, pass out, or both. Before she could find the words, a nurse came in the room. "Well, welcome back." Douglass stared at the older lady, looking at her badge she saw her name was Robin Young. Her stomach dropped when she read the bottom of the badge, Cedars Sinai LA California. Douglass reached out and snatched the badge off the startled women's uniform. "California? What am I doing in California?" Her voice started getting louder, "I want to know what's going on!" Two more nurses entered the room to see what the commotion was about. One left quickly, returning a few moments later with a doctor. "Ms MacArthur I'm Dr. O'Brien, I'm glad to see you awake. I just want to know that you have some very concerned friends and fiancee here." Willow groaned and looked toward Spike's amused face. "Fiancee?" Douglass blinked, " What fiancee?" She searched the faces around her for some clue as to what was going on. "Dr. O'Brien," Willow looked at the doctor with a worried expression, "She doesn't remember what happened to her" "It is common, most likely shock. We're going to run some tests." Turning to his young patient he added, "I know you're confused, and have a lot of questions. But let's take one thing at a time." Douglass nodded, a tear falling down her cheek. "Tori's dead isn't she." Closing her eyes she felt Willow try to hug her. "Yes, I'm so sorry." |
