| Astrology Astrology is based on the premise that since we are created by God (or Nature) each of us is driven by the goal He set for us. One inherits a certain basic nature. Astrology presumes that this basic nature and the direction in which one is set to go could be determined either partially or fully by the 'planetary' configuration (relative to ones place of birth) at the time of ones birth. Western Astrolgy is similar to Vedic Astrology in many ways because it is derived from Vedic Astrology. There are of course many differences. Rules of Western Astrology are fixed. Vedic Astrology has also many rules but it also has many 'yogas' which are generally exceptions or additions to the basic rules. Westen Astrology does not include 'dynamics' except in the form of transits of planets. Vedic Astrology includes dynamic aspects; in addition to the transits of planets it also has a 'dasha' system. In Vedic Astrology many divisional charts are used in addition to the basic chart (or 'Rasi Chart'). One of the important divisional charts is known as the 'Navamsa Chart'. The twelve Zodic signs (or Rasis) are divided in twenty seven Nakshatras. The dasha system that is most commonly used is based on which Nakshatra is hosting the moon at the time of birth of an individual. |
