8-25-2000: Strange Broo

Last night the party boated through the Great Bog from Five Eyes toward Dyskund. The late night guards were ambushed by nasty broo: a human-headed, insane horse ridden by an axe-wielding sable broo, a really fast (but wimpy) goat broo, and a big mean poleaxe-wielding zebra broo. Caernak killed the latter and Arcus nailed the fast goat broo. The other two were a little more tough; the horse tried to run down Dorgon but failed and was soon downed by Pachala and Dorgon, whereas the rider knocked out groggy Tison and then was dispatched (by Dorgon?). The next morning Tison came down with a mild case of Wasting Disease (-1 STR) but you got him to a riverfolk camp where he could rest.

The remainder of you went to Dyskund and entered the "secret" (now well marked by Storm Bull graffiti) entrance to the Thanatari shrine, which was burnt and looted quite well but showed lots of possibly recent tracks. Up in the Garden you were ambushed again by broo, this time well-organized and sneaky snipers with shuriken (impaled Tarranyr in the back) and firearrows (nailed Dorgon in the head several times, almost killing him!). You chased them down a passage, sure that they were leading you into a trap.

Caernak slipped on an icy floor after his Detect Enemy showed him that the broo had split up left and right, probably readying the ambush. You carefully moved down a curvy passage to a SIZ 16 squeeze. Dorgon went thru and was attacked at the end by The Well-Dressed Broo with two katanas! WDB was strong and tenacious, and something was attracting all ranged spells cast near him and sending the spells elsewhere. Dorgon was incapacitated by a sneeze spell and dropped to the floor, allowing Pachala to clamber over him and fight WDB, eventually killing WDB with a spear shot to the head! A charred pyromaniac broo (the firearrow sniper) stepped in to hack at him with a great axe, but was also clobbered quickly. Behind the group, a broo in Chalana Arroy robes tried to sneak up on Caernak but was detected and whalloped. So much for that ambush.

Unfortunately, the loot (2 katanas, a Sun Templar helm, and a dead crystal) turned out to be diseased with Soul Waste, which BVoN caught (-1 POW). You left Dyskund to recover back at the village, and the next day BVoN felt better. Tison was still taking it easy to avoid more STR loss (gets another CON roll in ~1 week).
