Che'enshashan arranged for some research thru Cayla Azturen, the Lhankor Mhy scholar who is an "expert" (not quite 90% though) on Dragon Lore and similar skills. BVoN has agreed to some interviewing, reluctantly Here's what they've compiled about 5 Eyes for you in documents given to Tison:
1. The One appears to be the spawn of the dreams of a True Dragon in Godtime, and is thus 1624 years old. It has lived in the caves of Five Eyes Rise ever since then, and rarely interacted with humankind except to eat them. People have talked with The One on occassion, but generally The One has actively avoided interaction, even with the EWF and Godlearners.
2. Details are vague, but is is thought that The One participated in the overnight destruction of the EWF. Pavic records indicate that a dragon matching The One's description flew into Pavis and killed scores of EWF worshippers in 1120, in conjunction with dragonewts and Blue Moon troll assassins.
3. Newtlings have lived in the marshes in the shadow of Five Eyes Rise for that long, too. Other draconic beings such as wyrms, EWF people, wyverns, magisaurs, dragonewts, etc. have come and gone from the area from time to time. The newtling town has always been independent from other newtling clans on the river, and at times has fought with them for territory. The 5 eyes newtlings breed stronger, meaner warriors than other clans but have never expanded far beyond their original territory. They worship similar gods: Zola Fel and his pantheon, plus they seem to have an obscure Cult of The One that has defied attempts at understanding it. The 5 eyes seem to have a passionate hatred of humans and other non-draconic/river beings.
4. The 5 eyes newtlings built a small walled fortress outside their floating village sometime after 1120, from which they were able to repel nomad and other assaults. Sometime around then, more dragonewts started hanging out in the area, and a scout dragonewt (small early stage) population was established there. The dragonewts did (and still do) treat the newtlings (and scouts, if higher rank) like slaves, or so it seems to human eyes.
5. Not much changed until recent years. In 1616 the Lunars started settling the Grantlands, and Duke Raus was the first to come. His settlement Ronegarth (= Raus Fort) was built to fight off not only nomads but very angry 5 eyes newtlings. Raus was never able to make peace with them; even when he allowed a newtling village to get established below Ronegarth, the village was raided and newtling larvae were kidnapped repeatedly. Shortly after Raus's arrival, the band of dragonewts that currently occupies 5 eyes rise arrived. Five warriors and a varying amount of others.
6. BVoN is the one warrior who strayed from the draconic path and got curious about non-dragons plus obsessed with protecting newtlings, so he was sent to Pavis as an "emissary" (or to prevent him from corrupting others, Cayla wonders?). The other 4 warriors have specific jobs for serving The One. BVoN says that another dragonewt (who has never been seen) is there, too. He is called Master Insight and sounds like he is The One's councilor. Probably a higher stage of 'newt than the warriors: either a noble ("tailed priest") or a ruler stage.
7. Muriah scared Raus away to Pavis in 1619 and has plagued the area ever since. The Five Eyes newts' hatred of her dwarfs their dislike of Raus. Unconfirmed rumor has it that The One was recently seen breathing fire on Ronegarth.
8. The most prominent conflicts between Sun County and Five Eyes began last year. Previous encounters were very rare, as Sun County lies at the extreme northern end of the dragon's hunting range. Arrowsands militia leader Magnus Pike has repeatedly declared that it is his holy mission to kill the dragon and feast on 5 eyes newtling tails.
9. It is unknown what the interaction between 5 eyes and the Lunars is like. Only a few events are on record, most minor. Yet in 1621, a huge (at least 100) war band of 5 eyes newtlings followed the Giant's Cradle southward to Corflu and helped to defend it from the Lunars' assault. Many were slaughtered, but many Lunar warriors were drowned, too. The closest Lunar establishment to 5 Eyes is the Stone Tower garrison that you stayed overnight at last season. No word of problems there. Che'en confides in you that he knows that the Lunar Coders and other diplomats have repeatedly tried to meet with The One but never succeeded. Shhhh! Judging from that, you seem to be on a higher ground than the Lunars.
10. Cayla and BVoN agree that one thing is true about The One: it hates the EWF. That's why it persecuted First Dreamer and remains suspicious of Wyrmsjaw and Tison (formerly The New Pretender, although that phrase hasn't been used lately). However, at the same time The One clearly has some interest in Wyrmsjaw that does not include demolishing it. Speculation abounds.
