7-7-2000: GodLearner Isle and Lunar Provincial Survey Team

Here is info that Tison researched on the God Learner isle:
Tison bought a nice old tapestry from a Pavic adventuring band. It has Seshnegi runes on it that ID it as made by God Learners. It shows a weird pointy island (marked with a Mastery, Wind, and Water rune) surrounded by lines of Magic runes, not far southeast from a coastal port where a cradle is shown floating down a river (Zola Fel of course).

Tison did some work on this and found an old Lhankor Mhy document in the library, entitled "A report on the Feroda Power Nexus and patterns of energy flow on the southern Genertelan coastline," written by a Pavic LM scholar named Gertara Nendri back in 1136 (shortly after the fall of the EWF).

The short report discusses lines of major magical energy flow that cross the world near what is now Corflu. Two of these lines cross at a point that corresponds to the rough position that the island is indicated on the tapestry. Much more interestingly, the report mentions a place called Spell (or Smell? Shell? the writing is marred) Island, saying that it is a mobile God Learner island that must return to the power nexus every year on the last day of Sea Season to recharge its energy supply. No more details on what the isle is are given.

From landmarks on the tapestry and document, Tison has estimated that the nexus/isle is about 3 days' sail SE from Corflu, given the good winds of Sea Season.

Lunar Provincial Field Survey Team info:
As you've been traveling with these guys for some 3 weeks now, and have had plenty of chances to talk with them, here's some more info on these Lunars: All are around 30 years old and have spent much of their careers in Prax serving Governor Sor Eel.

Dalamides Aveticus: Rune Lord of Seven Mothers. A gruff soldier who gets along well with his men and cares well for them, but shows obvious contempt for civilians and weaklings. He has the heart of a warrior and has lived all his life with warlike peoples. He shows mixed feelings toward nomads; respectingtheir skills in their land but aloof toward their barbaric ways. He and Pachala do not speak much since they discovered that they were on opposite sides during Moonbroth.

Dalamides is a charistmatic commander but rarely puts those skills to use in dealing with non-soldiers; his social skills ouside of the Lunar army are poor. He leaaves a lot of non-military decisions to Reskil or Hazphar who know better. They call him the Decurio, which must be his title.

He wears an iron ring hauberk, heavy leatherelsewhere (4pts), and carries an iron scimitar (Vorotyrn, allied spirit) that has a whopping powerful Bladesharp 10 matrix on it! Also carries iron target shield. Has used loads of rune magic in the shrine. Scimitar does loads of damage even without the bladesharp; must be enchanted heavily. Combat skills are all above 100 of course. You were surprised to find that he is an excellent tracker! (98%)

Reskil Taranus: Seven Mothers priest. In many ways the complete opposite of Dalamides. He will talk with anyone about anything and can be very gentle, kind, and openminded. He is a good speaker and very likeable, but not very experience in close combat. Seems to know a lot of magic and is willing to use it without hesitation. Wears a moonrock pendant and enchanted bezainted helm; heavy leather elsewhere. Has an allied spriti named Kistros who is in the form of a mourning dove, Reskil takes very close care of this fragile ally and you rarely see it In private Reskil occasionallly apologizes to you for the harsh words that Dalamides may fling your way, but stands by the Decurio's word in any dispute. Strangely, they work very well together and havd an odd friendship conisdering that they have nothing in common save their cult and country. Reskil's title is Chaplain.

Hazphar Pharates: Seven Mothers initiate, scholar, enigmatic personality. This guys leaves you scratching your heads often. He is even more adept at communication than the others, and is very very curious about all of you, but occassionally becomes very withdrawn and silent, even vacant or meditative. Something odd and magical is up with this guy and it probably scares the willies out of some of you. He clearly knows a lot and hides it well with a smirk.Hazphar takes as much times as he can to talk to any of you, playing less the role of Lunar missionary (which Reskil does with relish) than sincerely interested scholar who is in awe of these lands and their peoples. Still, he has a mean, sarcastic streak at times which he whips out like a scimitar when he is impatient or stressed.

Hazphar wears heavy leathers under his robes and, like Reskil, is not a wizard when it comes to swordplay. Heck he doesn't even carry a missile weapon or seem to use ranged spells. Yet his iron scimitar, like the others', seems to pack a real wallop without sparklingg with magic. You have seeen him at twilight and then he glows brightly with eerie white magicks that extend to the blades of Reskil and Dalamides. Unpleasant for non-city folk to see that. You have seen him cast few magics, most of the time he hangs out and chats, or helps in discussions about plans. He is not as chummy with Reskil and Dalamides as those two are; their relationship seems very professional and unemotional. But it works, they make decisions quickly and efficiently and are seldom seen to argue. The troops respect them and follow their orders without hesitation. Hazphar has no title and indeed his role in this mission often seems minimal except as an advisor, but they call him scholar and everyone listens when he talks.

Antonia Blackhock: Sable Rider from the Hungry Plateau in the Empire, where most of the Antelope Lancers regiment's beasts seem to come from.

She does not fit in very well with the rest of the group but is respected and trusted. Still she seems more comfortable talking with folks like Dorgon (whom she is really warming up to!) who have a more similar lifestyle. She is used to living outdoors and making her own living off the land; the city is still an odd place for her. Privately she has confided in Dorgon that someday she would like tom muster out of the Antelope Lancers and become an independent guide in Prax. She is a Seven Mothers and Daka Fal worshipper but is a daughter of the wilderness, with a stern businesslike approach to the other Lunars.

Antonia wears full bezainted and is a skilled archer with a fancy composite bow carved with many runes. She confesses to know little magic but her arrows still wreak havoc. She impresses you with her fluency in Praxian (well, 36%)and knowledge of the land (80% prax lore, pretty good for only having lieed here 10 years), plus she can read and write two tongues (New Pelorian and Tarshite)! She is reserved and quiet unless someone strikes up a conversation, instead she spends much of her time watching the landscape, tending the beasts, or maintaining her gear.

The two soldiers are (or were, in the case of Cormanius) even more gruff than Dalamides and just kept out of your way. You heard them mutter some cussing about Feroda, and it is odd that the Lunars have barely mentioned it although they seem to be focusing on the present job rather than past problems/issues. Dalamides remains very upset at the death of Cormanius and takes it very personally. Poleus (other trooper) just says that it's part of the danger of the job and Cormanius lived well, is family will do fine. Indeed, it is impressive how disciplined those broo archers were, he has only seen more skill among the Humakti broo armies of Ralzakark in Dorastor.
