5-21-2000: Sun County and Murder Mystery

Well, we got a lot done yesterday. You weathered a Storm Bull storm in the wilds of Sun County, tried to hunt Skybulls, fought whirlvishes, found a sacrifical storm bull block, found a sacrificial chaos statue in an abandoned field (later info searching reveals that it is called a herm; it is a symbol of Cacodemon, the god of ogres!), etc. Out-intimidated a small band of Tusk Riders, survived encounters with aggressive militia, and then arrived at Arrowsands...

Where Five Eyes the dragon was fighting the town militia, and was struck down by an arrow as you showed up. A race between you and the militia ensued to get to the dragon first. Newtlings popped out of the river and delayed the militia and archers. Tison got there in time to pull Magnus Pike's arrow out of the dragon, then caught Magnus's pike in his swordbreaker shield and disarmed Magnus! He healed the dragon too, then Tarranyr let his Mist Cloud loose to conceal the dragon. The dragon rose up and breathed on Tison + Magnus; Tison was left dying but Tarranyr and Elohwyn saved him. Dorgon swam into the wrong part of the river and almost drowned, but Elohwyn saved him too. Pachala and Arcus tried to persuade the sun domers to halt their attack, with little success at first. Then something weird happened and all of a sudden Magnus was dying from four wounds dealt by 4 warrior dragonewts! Seemed like a dream, or awakening from one. With Arcus's help, the battle was ended as Five Eyes flew off and the dragonewts and newtlings slinked into the river.

Magnus was displeased and claimed that he had driven the dragon off and would slay it another day. He held you under guard for a while then grudgingly let you leave town so he could focus on repairing the town. Pachala, Elohwyn, and Dorgon found Chingua and Kennakuna and then found Gilherad's observatory. With a little searching, Elohwyn found the runes you were looking for, and you later deciphered them to get directions to the Tien cave shrine in Vulture Country.

Elohwyn teleported home and the nomads headed south. They met some odd nomads who rode white beasts and said they followed Argrath White Bull, whoever that was, and said that he was gone or vanished or something. They were hunting down the Lunar troops that had passed south before. Odd to see a mix of bison, llamas, impala, and sable together, including several powerful rune lords! Later, the nomads had a long battle with a small broo band in Muriah's Great Bog. More fumbles on both sides than I can remember ever seeing! You won, but Chingua caught a bad case of Brain Fever and went from 13 to 9 INT before he could be healed at Pachala's clan.

Eventually you rendezvous'd back at Pavis and spent some time. Tarranyr witnessed the aftermath of a murder of a city council official... poison melted the guy's head! A long investigation by many parties ensued, and it wasn't long before the party (at Arcus's house) was marked for assassination. But you guessed who the traitor might be soon enough, and stopped by that merchant's house for a visit. A gurgling cry from within compelled you to break in, but he had killed himself after he tried to burn a lot of his business records. Bendrath got you clearance to investigate the site the next day, and you found a stiletto, poison, hazia, and a trapdoor leading to a Krarshtkid tunnel (collapsed, sadly) in his bedroom! Hmmm... and a Reconstruction spell showed Melthorpe dealing with Krarshti assassins!

Seems like a closed case, but understandably you feel paranoid now... are there Black Fang, Thanatari, AND Krarshti assassins after you? Not to mention Tusk Rider Gagarthi, Zorak Zorani trolls, a dragon ghost, a sage ghost, assorted thieves, Lunars, sea monsters, mixed chaos cultists, and more. So you're planning a long trip away from home: Tien shrine, then Corflu, then God Learner island next season. What could go wrong?

Eric: He forgot tison getting declared an ememy of sun county after not drawing a weapon and begging 5 eyes for Mr DroppedPike's life.
