Brief Overview of Wyrmsjaw Fort History

Just for fun and the benefit of all, I've gone through old notes and compiled a very simple history of what you and your fort have been through since the campaign started 9 game years ago in 1616 Solarum Temporum (1995 in real time... 7 yrs!). Correct me if I get the timing wrong, or please add personal recollections of big events. I'm trying to reconstruct our first 3-4 yrs of gaming for posterity.

1616, Fire season. After some (mixed) success identifying the source of a gorp plague along the river earlier that year, the newly blessed and tattooed River Voices were hired by Ithas Resh, Jr. (leader of the Pavis Survivors gang of Zebra Riders, who formerly were the cavalry of the Pavis Royal Guard but were deposed and hunted by the Lunars after 1610's battle of Moonbroth) through Tison. Ithas hires them to help the Pavis Survivors reclaim the fort, which was taken from "their friends" (a local Pavic adventuring group sponsored by Bendrath; now dead but friends of Griselda's band) by Gagarthi (cruel storm-wind outlaw nomads) and Tusk Rider bandits from Adari. Itha's interest was to return the fort to friendly Pavic hands and to eliminate this dangerous rival gang in the Rubble. Your interest was a share of the spoils, Tison's opportunity to study the fort, and the fort would nominally be yours to occupy. Elohwyn was quite interested in a home for her vingan friends; Luxor (Ken's Humakti), Caernak, Lassiter, and Pachala just wanted the chance at glory and maybe a hideout.

The Pavic Survivors led a frontal assault to draw out the bandits while you snuck inside the front door; Itha's men took very heavy losses but you got inside and engaged the Tusk Rider leaders, including a nasty priest of Gagarth whom Caernak disabled. As the battle raged and things looked fairly bad, a band of trolls joined the fray, and to your relief fought the bandits! Their leader, a Kaarg's Son (rune lord) of Kyger Litor was called Bruebegahn, and he was very mighty. With the trolls' help the battle was ended and few bandits survived. There was then a tense standoff between the trolls and Survivors, who clearly hated each other, but then Shennin Ashal (morokanth River Voice priest and famed heroquester) and her newtling bodyguards "A" and "B" (literally) appeared and told Bruebegahn that his favor to her was done and he should leave.

Shennin revealed that she had helped Bruebegahn's trolls clean out the gorp-spawning temple of Pocharngo that you found, and learned in dreams that the fort was important to the river, so she came in a secret entrance with the trolls' help (that tunnel is now sealed with lead and trapped with dwarf defenses). You took over the fort and started exploring it eventually, with some misadventures. Soon Tison realized that the fort's main fresco room's magical moving pictures gave clues to the location of Feroda, the lost port of the God Learners near Corflu. You started planning an expedition there, with help from the river and knowledge cults. Tison found documents by a sage named Morta the Devout who had explored the fort decades ago, and these notes helped show how to operate the fort as well as provide clues to Feroda. Tison and you also found a way into the fort's tomb that held the remains of a skeletal Empire of the Wyrms Friends priest, and that's where you got the infamous Dreamlink, Elohwyn's Nightdrinker sword, etc., and unknowingly released your most dire foe.

1617, Sea season after the high holy day of Zola Fel: After helping the people of Corflu fight off a huge swarm of "Thirsty Ones" (huge mosquitoes), you started exploring the swamps of Feroda, and had plenty of adventures racing a Lunar survey team to Feroda (not Dalamides's team who you just beat in 1625 [see http://www.geocities.com/rqsummaries/summaries/7-7-00.htm for their details]); mostly scholars and marines led by Sakaelia Iridinora, Irripi Ontor sage who later became a correspondent with Tison), and along the way being helped (mostly) and threatened (later) by the 5 Eyes newtlings (yes, the same 5 of them!). And you found lots of God Learner monuments that the swamp had partly swallowed, then you found Feroda, some parts of which had recently been uncovered by the waters. You explored it, freed a paralyzed giant named Quatch, and then fought the Lunars and some magical/zombie defenders of the partial city. First Dreamer the green wyrm appeared, took Tison away for a chat, and then helped you drive off the Lunars (he flew away with one). But angry frog-things called Croakers had cut you off from the north, and a tidal wave was coming from the south. You found some clear gelatinous spheres that people could fit inside, and you went in.

You woke up on the shores of Nekero's isle, where you helped the spirit of the Isle cleanse itself of a God Learner factory that was living off the island like fuel and polluting the seas; Pachala blinded a giant cyclops/statue, you saw a bunch of Godlearners in statsis in gel globes at the bottom of the sea, and Tison died but was resurrected as an island-thing. Then you managed to find some sailors (was this Amur and Barran, who you helped find a "sea princess"/slay The Brown Shark? I think so) and got home to Corflu to find that 4 years had passed (it was 1621), as had a Giant's Cradle that escaped after huge battles with the Lunars, and First Dreamer had convinced the local Lunars that you were their friends! Also, the Lunars had found enough pieces of the Watchdog to build and animate a 72 meter tall version of it to guard their waters around Corflu, and it has served them very well. [The Watchdog is said to be an ancient construct from the time of the Godlearners or maybe earlier; perhaps designed/enslaved to catch Cradles]

Storm Season 1621 Back home in Pavis, you found that Zorak Zorani trolls had taken the fort and killed everyone inside. With Bendrath's help you recruited some archers, footmen, a gnome, newtlings, rhino riders, and vingans to help retake the fort, and Elohwyn managed some mysterious quest to get help from an uncouth source (The Chuckler in The Blackness). That source sent a cloud of Hell Darkness into the fort that made the trolls inside come running out screaming in terror, and you smacked em down as they came out. A Zorak Zorani Death Lord named Ogrikk Blood-dancer was there and fought horrendously along with his zombie great troll bodyguard, but you trapped him in a gnome and killed them all. Inside the darkness was some evil demon called a Lurker In Shadows that killed Elohwyn's friend Kytilla (later her allied spirit) and almost several others besides the trolls, but you destroyed it. And the fort was yours again.

First Dreamer soon appeared inside the fort and welcomed you home! Tison decided to hold onto the dreamlink and started acted funny, really kissing up to First Dreamer. He even got a blasting rod as a gift from FD. Later, you chose to gang up and fight FD, and it was a nasty fight with him. [In one version of the fight, the campaign was ended by everyone being slain or enslaved by him, and we took a brief detour to try a Dorastor campaign, but then we decided to explore another possible outcome.... which follows:]

But during the fight with First Dreamer, waters from the underground river surged up through the fort and swept everyone away. You woke up again much as the first new River Voices did, on a mudlflat near Corflu, with new tattoos on your right palms (signifying Zola Fel's switch from harmony to vengeance). But it was not Chuff the baboon shaman and his troop that found you this time, but Lunar "friends" led by Sakaelia Iridinora, head scholar of the Lunar exploration of the marshes. She was quite surprised to find survivors from the recent flood, which the Lunar expedition hoped would have uncovered new pieces of Feroda or the Watchdog in the marshes. You came to Corflu and hung out, but found that odd things were going on there: hauntings of an aquatic nature. Some of them matched dreams Caernak had had earlier.

Soon you met up with your old ally Barran the monster-killer sailor and his negotiator Amur, and it was revealed that the hauntings were caused by the manifestation of The Vomiter, a huge spirit-eel that had followed Barran here to kill him, but Barran hoped to kill instead. Once again he called on you to help him, and you went inside the Vomiter in his boat The Churner on a sort of heroquest through the alimentary canal of the eel. Caernak got stronger, Elohwyn got quicker, Tison got scaly, and Ken's character Mumar got his head bitten off by a giant sea serpent... but then Elohwyn killed The Vomiter with an Ever-Burning Torch touched to its heart, and in its death throes it vomited you all out into the ocean. Once again you were cast away, and ended up separated, washed up on distant shores near the home of the Wolf Pirates (Three Step Isles). A few folks (Caernak and Pachala??) had to march through monster-infested jungles on their marooned island, having a horrid time and then finding a village of beauties where the rest of their pals had been recovering in paradise! I forget how you made it home after that, I think it was a wolf pirate vessel that came to you, but you did make it home.

~Sea Season 1622: Eventually you made it back to Pavis and rounded up forces to reclaim Wyrmsjaw Fort from First Dreamer. An odd western dragonewt warrior "knight" named Scorn of Life who rode an allosaur came to help you. You had a bitter fight with vampire wyrms, zombie wyverns, and First Dreamer, but you killed him although the dragonewt and allosaur were taken down, and after Ken's character Luxor the Humakti Headtaker vanished permanently after using a Godlearner "force brace" to protect himself. You imprisoned FD and passed the year by doing various explorations, training, etc. At Sacred Time FD's spirit came out as a slave spirit called Last Awakened, and opened a door into the Outer Circle of Rapture, which was the entryway to Firshala's prison. Later (end of 1623?) you got entrance into the Inner Circle of Rapture, and Elohwyn freed Firshala from her prison there and became Warden of Rapture, in charge of the fort.

Finally, you messed around a bit with a scholar who had been bothering Tison and Elohwyn, sometimes helping them, sometimes acting maliciously. He turned out to be Morta the Devout, the one whose documents led Tison to the secrets of the fort. But he also turned out to be evil, in pursuit of First Dreamer's power and allied with a Black Fang ring led by Illwraith the assassin (there were hints of Black Fang interest in the fort shortly after you first took it). Arcus killed him in Pavis after a chase, and you took out the remaining Black Fangs; Illwraith fled away and has never been heard from again. Events from then on, such as The Black, Dyskund, The Tien Shrine, Puzzle Canal, River's Womb, Black Rock village, and river heroquests.
