So you set out to investigate the rumors of 2 giants, led by Elohwyn. First you went to Griffin Gate; en route a small but very nasty and tenacious furry 8-legged thing called an Arxarn, apparently made by trolls, attacked Pachala and almost killed him and Elohwyn's warhorse before it was brought down by many mighty blows. Its strength, mass, and berserk fury impressed you so eventually you brought it back to Tison who identified it and said it was very rare, and Elohwyn had found an uncommon Liver Stone of the Faceless Statue (rough grey stone with Life and Death runes on it) that Tison said conferred some variable resistance to poison. But first you went to see Windwhistler the wyrm at Griffin Gate, and he and the griffins said that they had indeed seen a drum-beating giant and a mad one (crying "Pain!") across the river; the drum one (Punt) was in Smalltown that morning. You went toward Smalltown via the fort (to recharge crystals) and along the way saw that you were being shadowed by 1-2 people.
In the ruins across the Zebra Bridge you were alerted to a chaos gang clumsily preparing an ambush in ruins ahead, and you attacked. Eleven of them were there, including a diseased wamp, a tough-skinned zebra broo and rock lizard broo, two hyena broo, a slime-man-thing that regenerated and vomited filth, and skirmishers consisting of three harpies, a javelin-throwing vulture broo, and a leaping impala broo.
You slew them, except the skirmishers, who fled. But you had used a lot of magic and decided to head home, even though you heard Punt's drumming and (after a hard fall) Elohwyn climbed to see him not far away. En route home, you met Kortan's Band of adventurers, and Kortan invited you to help him rob, err, negotiate with, the giant. You relcutantly went along and Elohwyn amused Punt while Kortan grew frustrated and left to hunt the other giant for treasure. Elohwyn got Punt's attention enough that he said: "Sightless tyrant on green throne, Archway crumbles, faulty stone. Eyes of kin stare, carved in bone. Prize for you show, where we goin'. Groloday deduced that this meant that you should show him to the ruins on Blind King's Hill, and Elohwyn romanced him enough to allow a brief stopover at the fort again to recover magics (Tison confirmed the BKH idea and let you know that The One was awakening at dawn tomorrow, and Tison was allowed to confer some "Pavic blessings" on Dorgon and Groloday). Punt impatiently waited while Elohwyn occupied him and heard that he must finish his task by dawn too.
That night you made in under cover of darkness to Blind King's Hill, which is a mysterious place of forgotten purpose but well known prospects and dangers for adventurers, including many reputed vampires. On the edge of the hill Punt sniffed his way to a torchlit tower, which he charged as archers shot at him and you followed behind. Punt impressively smashed down the huge wooden gate under the tower archway and scared off twelve zebra riders (plus six archers) inside, after pulverizing two that got in his way. He was transfixed by an ivory giant's face mounted on the inner rim of the tower, and it then roared "AVENGE!" at him and dropped a huge golden wheel from its mouth.
Punt grabbed the coin and held it up to your torchlight as it released a powerful glow and telepathic voice in Old Pavic, saying an elegant Pavic poem:
"Oh my how the centuries slip by.
I hight Sunbeam Seeker.
Open thine head-muscle to me,
Child of the ruined world.
Once I was honored companion
To Thine Lost One,
Now I be but a feeble shell, neglected.
I bestow on thee the pathway to vengeance.
May almighty Thog grant thee fury."
And Punt gave the coin to Elohwyn, asking you "brave ones" to come along as helpers. Elohwyn said the big coin mindspoke to her them, saying:
"Follow this one, truthbonder.
Lest justice be rent asunder.
Thine goal lies ahead but hours,
Amidst the jumbled ruins of the twisted towers.
You will know the site be true
Under the dappled shade of the sorrowful two.
In Yelm's gaze the dance of this Great Wheel,
Will the true place be revealed.
Agent of Vengeance he settles the score;
His voice is the key, his rage is the door.
For above all the darkness, below all the light,
Lies a bubble of torment, a mad jailor's delight.
Only the righteous can make it all right."
And then it became silent; a POW 20 spirit in a 2 ENC coin bearing a cradle on one side, and Light/Movement runes on the other surrounded by Old Pavic scripture that Ji read as, "Sunbeam Seeker, Golden Wheel Dancer of Gonn Orta." Groloday recognized the meaning of this best, as a mythical race from the ages of cradles called the Golden Wheel Dancers; they were supposedly benevolent light spirits that helped the giants and their cradles with protective magic and intelligent guidance. [Various people's Lore skills paid off Big Time on this adventure!]
Punt rushed off roaring into the night and you followed him as fast as you could.
