5-05-2000: Slimy aliens and strange towers
We played Thurs night and had a fun old time. No one died!
Yet. To make a long story short, you massacred the bony chaos beings
and destroyed a pulsing mouthed mound that seemed to be the heart of
their lair. In combat, Arcus parried a critical spear-tongue hit
that was about to kill Dorgon, and Dorgon dodged it, but it still
nailed Dorgon in the head for a few pts. Chingua was shamed by
fumbling a climb roll and breaking his leg before he could even
engage chaos. You found a few dead, dismembered Mru and newtlings
that the things were feeding on. You seemed to have wrapped it up
nicely. Caernak and the 5 eyes returned a week later and found that
the membranous coating was withered and receding; weeks later it will
be all gone. The question remains, what were these evil things and
how /why did they infest that cave system?
Next you headed out for Sun County, with Elohwyn who had
teleported in from Sartar after being nearly killed by a chaos giant
in Snakepipe Hollow! You had problems with a corrupted militia
official at the SC border, then more problems with a suspicious Lady
Vega Goldbreath rune lord near the Sun Dome (who told you of a dream
that priest Gaumata the Strange had about a thief stealing the beard
off of Count Solanthos!), then mysterious interloper at your camp who
ran away. Finally you made it to the retirement tower in Goldbreath
and found that the people there were awed by Arcus's presence and
intrigued by the rest of you (a little). They were very helpful and
even invited you to check out the haunted tower! Wow. The Zola Fel
"shrine" at the end of the Skullbush Wash was abandoned, if there
ever had been one there.
Elohwyn's wind flew Arcus over the tower, which had a magical
field (Sanctify) around it. In there he saw a priest sitting,
looking up at the sun. The priest held a scepter and globe and had a
leather satchel by him, as well as a flaming brazier in front.
Something looked odd about that priest; he didn't move and he looked
withered and old (SIZ 6!). Creepy. When Arcus investigated more
closely, a SIZ 20 salamander chased him off. You soon decided to
leave well enough alone and go to the village for a dinner with the
people. Arcus impressed them further with grand speeches about
himself, Yelmalio, and the river. That night you camped near the
tower and saw a salamander come after someone screaming. The someone
turned out to be a 19yr old girl, Trebbina, who was supposedly an
orphaned Sun Domer, parents executed by Solanthos for fornication.
Same burglar that scoped you out the previous night at camp. She was
hungry and looking for food or $. You interrogated her, then she ran
off. Next morning, you headed south toward Arrowsands to check out
Gilherad's Observatory, which is supposed to have directions to a
Tien shrine in the Wastes.
