2-26-2000: Broo hunt success!

Well, the broo-slaying foray went pretty well, although there were lots of tense moments where defeat seemed imminent. Having those auxiliaries nearby saved you yet again. No sign of Illwraith but you slew some 14 chaos creatures!

You gathered forces, magicked up, and crept up on the tangled park where the broo gang lives. Inside the park you quickly slew two broo, a scorpion man, and a 2-headed dragonsnail that were lying in ambush. The rest of the broo lair was empty except for disease-ridden junk, a stone altar with a defiled Yelmalion chalice, and a lurking Creeping Chills spirit that Arcus drove off.

You waited in ambush for the broo gang and sure enough they came back later. Cripple pebbles placed near the lair entrance helped disable two, but then things turned tough. Pachala was engaged by a broo and a Soul Waste spirit, then knocked out by an ogre (so the spirit possessed him) after a Fumble spell made him slip up enough for a critical maul attack to drive home! Arcus was befuddled and engaged by a Bleeding Disease spirit, which distracted him for the whole battle. Your archers, Dorgon's blasting wand, hired Zebra rider lancers, and Windwhistler's Sunspear took out a bunch of broo including the shaman. The two scorpion men were tough but Tison took one out and Dorgon (after being stung twice) and others wasted the other. You slew the few remaining broo.

One broo had escaped into the tangled park but Dorgon tracked it. To his dismay, it concealed itself in the weeds and breathed fire on him; 19pts thru armor to the abdomen! Luckily Tison was near with Heal Wound or Dorgon would have died. Arcus and the others finished the pathetic thing off. Windwhistler was pleased that his gate area was cleaner, and gave you some gold for your trouble. Pachala's new recruits Chingua and Kennakuna turned out to be useful fighters.

You trained for a total of 9 weeks, to the point where Caernak's arm is healed up. Shortly before that, BVON and 4 dragonewt warriors showed up as "statues" outside the fort. That's not all. Now, on top of Wyrmsjaw Fort, is sleeping a SIZ 70, POW 40 DRAGON! Yep, old Five Eyes Himself. Five armored eyes the size of target shields, a tan pebbled hide like a Praxian mesa, belly as blue as the Sea Season sky, and angry black smoke curling out of its plated nostrils. Think 24pt armor and a 9d6 damage bonus and you get the idea; it's a bad ass.

Your first good look at Five Eyes since you first met him 7 years ago, and he is just as impressive as you expected. So far he has remained asleep. Word is spreading through the Pavis area that the Dragon of Five Eyes has taken residence in the Rubble, and within 24 hours you can hear any rumor you can imagine in town. Tison, of course, made a beeline for the fort and has spent time in the courtyard watching. He has found that Five Eyes' fiery breath can be tricky even when he is asleep: once the dragon sighed and nearly charred Tison and his scholar friend Gregor!
