1-24-2000: Bad Luck Sunday ...

Ouch. I won't try to summarize the details of what happened last night. It was the wildest, most confusing, and surprising night that I can remember in my 16 years of gaming. Here's highlights, feel free to add your highlights:

1) The party hiked through the Rubble, trying to make it to the Real City. Easy? No. A grief spirit, appearing as a weeping Pavic woman searching for her lost love, manifested and engaged Tison and 2 others in a succession of spirit combats. It was driven off, but the party used tons of MPs in the process.

2) On the way through ruins near the Real City, ghouls started howling. Then a bloated, black-and-blue human corpse in chainmail burst through the ground in front of Pachala, and ghouls lept from the shadows. Everyone was demoralized from the howling, and all sharp weapons became blunted (reduced to 1d4 damage). A desparate battle ensued, and the party barely won. The thing (called a draugr, an undead berserker) almost killed Pachala and Caernak (saved by the healing of Tarranyr, Taleo, and others), but Dorgon, Pachala, Tison, and Caernak eventually brought it down. Not before it ripped off Caernak's right arm, though! There were many fumbled attacks and such, but in the end you won. You limped back to the Real City just in time to make it through the closing gates.

3) You rested for a few days. Phew. That was tough. Then Chygh showed up at the fort, giving you just enough time to gather a small group before you attacked the Black Fangs. Elohwyn was at the Pairing Stone and was sorely missed. On the way to the BF shrine, you spotted giant ants at an anthill that were piling up gems or something. You passed but noted their location.

4) You moved through ruins to the shrine, NE of the fort. The 5 eyes newtlings were covering your flank. Chygh issued his battle cry and you charged. 2 shades, a ghost of a baby with its throat slit (crying "it ate me! it ate me!"), a skeletal fear spirit, a whirlvish, and lots of spells and missiles engaged you. You made it through but Pachala was demoralized. BFs started appearing out of Concealment spells and meleeing or shooting Multimissiled weapons, then vanishing. Chygh continued the charge, killing a big axe-wielding man. Arcus was befuddled and stayed that way for much of the battle. Chygh made it to the shrine's door but fell into a gnome's pit and was helpless. A shattered crystal dispelled most of Tison, Dorgon, and Tarranyr's spells.

Things got worse. More fumbles, general mayhem, and such. Tison died from wounds dealt by a wraith and a nasty barbarian warrior (who had the Discrete Task Enabler dagger; hence suspected to be Morta). Chygh used 5 POW DI-ing to escape the gnome while Illwraith garotted him. The two fought for a little while (and a magicked-up Morokanth helped) until Illwraith's "Stillbreath" poison started killing Chygh. He DI-d again, using 10POW and leaving him with 1 POW, to survive the poison. He started singing his death song (Berserk) but eventually was killed from massive wounds. Pachala killed the Morokanth after a long chase. A few other BFs were killed while they tried to drag Tison's body away. There were many more fumbles.

In the end, once the 5 eyes newtlings showed up, Illwraith told her assassins to abandon the shrine and scatter, and some of you set off tracking them. We need to plan this out on e-mail.

As far as you can tell, the remaining living BFs are:

1) Illwraith, largely unharmed.
2) A wimpy newtling.
3) A wimpy trollkin.
4) A female Pavisite (wimpy?)

Finally, John's car got a flat tire just 1 block from his house (4 blocks from Dave's). Much like the party has done on recent occasions, John and his car limped home. :-)
