Group I Verbs in this group, which derives from the first conjugation of Latin, have infinitives which end in -â. In this group are to be found the vast bulk of Furlan verbs, including all new words coined (e.g. the anglicism parcâ -- "to park"). |
Group II This group is made up of verbs derived from the second and third conjugations of Latin. These two original conjugations can still be distinguished in the infinitive forms of these verbs, but in all other forms they're the same, so it is not necessary to consider them separate conjugations in modern Furlan. Those from the second conjugation of Latin have -ê as the ending of the infinitive, whereas those from the third conjugation of Latin have an unstressed -i (not to be confused with the stressed - of the infinitives of Group III). |
Group III This group, whose verbs end in a stressed -î, derives from the fourth conjugation of Latin, and can be divided into two sub-groups: Verbs in Group IIIb have -is(s) added to the stem in all the singular forms and the third-person plural forms of the present indicative and the present subjunctive, as well as the second-person singular of the imperative. The -is(s) may also appear in any of the forms of the future and conditional tenses of Group IIIb verbs, but usually the resulting -issar- is reduced simply to -ir- (e.g. o capirai instead of o capissarai). Verbs in Group IIIa are those to which -is(s) is not added. Groups IIIa and IIIb also have different vowels in the suffixes of the past participle, but otherwise are conjugated the same. | ||||||
