U BETCHA!
The Making of a Minnesotan Boy Band
By Minneapolis playwrights Ryan Paul North and Beau Hays
"U Betcha - The Making of a Minnesotan Boy Band" is being produced by Hamel Road Theatre Project at the Bryant Lake Bowl. After seven SOLD OUT performances in April and May, U Betcha is back for its second extended run! New performance dates are July 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd, and August 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th at 8:00.
Jimmy Forsythe (played by Rick Logan), a washed-up, alcoholic talent agent embarks on a unique journey to give the world just what it needs... another boy band! But he knows that in order for them to survive in the public eye, he must assemble a group of heartthrobs that are on the cutting-edge of trend and popularity. Determined to make a successful group from the most unlikely of places, Forsythe heads to Minnesota to hold auditions.
Five young men are chosen to fill the positions. Jake Jackson (played by Joe Bombard), the youngest of the five, a suburbanite who looks like he's straight out of a Spike Lee movie and talks like he's from Brooklyn. Jason Evans (played by Barry Patrick), the oldest, a mysterious street-smart bad boy. Sean Michael Peirson (played by Ryan Paul North), a Minneapolis native, the over-dedicated go-to guy who gave up a budding solo career to join the band. Seth Whittacker (played by Beau Hays), an innocent farm boy from Hinckley who leaves the family, girlfriend, and the cows behind for a more "interesting" life in the city. And Formica, the all-important missing link who will send the group into superstardom, if he ever shows up... Be a part of their roller coaster ride as they go through a grueling audition, their first meeting, vocal and dance rehearsal, their first gig, and finally, maybe, receive a record deal.
Including five original pop songs written by local musician Dennis Curly!
No new comers to the Minnesotan comedy scene, the cast includes alumni from Tony 'n Tina's Wedding, Dudley Rigg's Brave New Workshop, and How to Talk Minnesotan!
Hamel Road Theatre Project is an offshoot of RPN Productions which has brought Minneapolis stage adaptations of such films as "Reservoir Dogs" in 1997 and "The Shawshank Redemption" in 2000 as well as comedy gems like last Halloween's "The Scariest Freakin' Show EVER"
