Early Morency Ancestral Houses

The oldest of the Morency houses no longer stands.  It had been abandoned so long and in such bad condition that it was demolished in about 1930.  At that time, there was a newer house built in front of the original house.  The newer house is believed to have built by the Perrot family.  This house which still stands at 4266 Royal Way in Sainte-Famille.  In 1728, Hilaire Morency married Francoise Simon, the widow of Louis Perrot, whos land, which was part of farm number 19, thus becoming part of the Morency legacy.  The house and land remained in the Morency family until the 1990's when Rock Hebert bought it from Marguerite Morency.

Another house in the same area that was once in the Morency family is a house said to be built by the Morissette family around 1720.  The first Morency Family to occupy this house was Joseph and his wife Marth Loignon sometime after their marriage in 1758. Following in line was Pierre and Josette Roberg, Joseph and Genevieve Premont, Joseph and Ceciel Drouin then his second wife Hermine Morency, then Ovide with Dianne Marquis then his second wife Malvina Turcotte, then finally  Eudore and his wife Lucienne Pichette.  Approximately 57 Morency children were raised in this house.
This house still stands at 4417 Royal Way.  As the house aged, it deteriorated badly.  In 1957, a young artist, Jean Marie Bastien, rented the house from Eudore.  By that time, the house was in such poor condition that Jean Marie was required by Eudore to sign a paper stating that if the house fell on him that Eudore would not be responsible.  In 1961, Suzanne Howard, a friend and partner of Jean Marie, purchased the house along with her husband Jean Demers.  The house was purchased without land but with a restriction that there could be no construction within 100 feet of the house.

Suzanne and her husband spent many hours restoring the old house.  It is all original except for the floors on the eastern side where rain had entered the house causing the floors to rot.

Because of declining health, Suzanne now has the house up for sale.  Should any member of the Morency family care to help preserve some of the Morency history and are interested un purchasing the house, they can contact Suzanne Howard at 4417 Chemin Royal, Sainte-Famille, Ille d'Orleans, P.Qc 3PO Canada.  Telephone 418-829-3183.
