When the going gets tough, Gratton just gets going. The team's starting point guard led all scorers with eleven points, including an early jumper from downtown. Gratton complemented his sound backcourt play with tough defense in the paint, helping the team from all areas of the court. But the victory wouldn't have even happened if not for Gratton's fortitude near the end of the game. Down by one point with only 35 seconds left, Gratton took the initative to take the final shot. The shot was good, and the team held on for its second win of the season thanks to Gratton's tireless effort.
Defensive Player of the Week (3/23 - 3/29)
chris HARISIS
Normally when you lose production of 14 rebounds and 4 blocks, a team's defense suffers, espeically in the paint. But "Roebling-bling" Chris Harisis assured a defensive letdown would not result against a tough Silver Falcons team. Stepping in at center for the injured Larry Penney-Furino, Harisis made up for the lost rebounds and blocks by making his own presence felt for a second straight game. Harisis grabbed eight rebounds, leading all players, and chipped in a steal and a block. His inside work and crucial block at the end of the game secured another victory.
Sixth Man of the Week (3/23 - 3/29)
chris CHIAVERINI and vi NGUYEN (tie)
For a second straight week, two players off the bench fully deserved the recognition. Chiaverini, playing in his first game, teamed with Harisis to provide a much-needed inside force against the strong inside play of the Silver Falcons. One of only three scorers for the team, Chiaverini also pulled down two offensive rebounds, clearly making his presence felt in the paint. Nguyen came off the bench to assist the team in another area - backcourt energy. Coming in to spell starters Gratton and Bowen, Nguyen injected his quickness and agility into an otherwise slow-paced game. His work resulted in a couple steals and several hurried shots by the Silver Falcons.
